Overview

Lugia is one of the original raid bosses, and one heck of a tough nut to crack due to its titanic defense stat. In fact, it's so high that a Trio is only doable with weather and/or high powered Shadows and Megas. On the other side of its stats, we can see that its attack stat is fairly low, but it has a number of very strong attacks to help make up for that fact.

Approach

Team Composition

  • Teams should be built around weather for a Trio, though a 4-person run has much more leeway.
  • Front-load glass cannons for maximum DPS. This battle also appreciates an anchor or two as it's partly a battle of attrition.
  • Moveset is important! Lugia's semi-varied and powerful attack options can greatly limit the effectiveness of numerous counters
  • Shadow Pokemon are expensive, but several can make this battle much easier
  • Mega Gengar and Mega Houndoom have great performance and spread around powerful type boosts, which helps this battle greatly

Battling strategy

  • Re-entering will be necessary. Prepare multiple teams.

  • Dodging is recommended, as Lugia's charged moves are very strong.

Note: "Good" movesets are not necessarily viable at the level indicated.
