Overview

On February 15th, 2020, Lickitung will be available as a special Tier 4 raid boss with a special move: Bodyslam. While normally a Tier 3 when it enters the raid scene, this will mark the first time that Lickitung has gone any farther than that.

In Tier 3, Lickitung is nothing special. As a Tier 4, it's no longer possible to actually solo. That said, it's not a hard raid in general. Lickitung also has it rough, as most players already have a team of Machamp ready, Conkeldurr was recently released, and Lucario just received Aura Sphere recently. This poor tongue-lizard is going to need some bruise treatment.

Special Note

This version of Lickitung has not been available since its initial raid day, and this guide reflects the game at that time. In the event that Lickitung returns to Tier 4 for any reason, this guide will be updated to reflect updates to the game at the time.

Approach

Team composition

  • Lucario is the top. If you have a good one or more, it will eat Lickitung for breakfast

  • Really, any of the major Fighting Types are more than strong enough to succeed in this raid if high enough level.

Dodging strategy

  • Dodging isn't extremely important, but be ready to if you're fainting out. Hyper Beam is the main move to dodge.

  • Timing out shouldn't be a problem, but dodge less if you do.

NOTE: these are just the top counters, several others hit Duo-level DPS.

Best Raid Boss Counters

Counters Viable at Lv.30
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Pros:

  • Best overall counter; highest damage and great survivability.
  • By virtue of its Steel typing, it resists Normal and Grass Type movesets
  • Takes neutral damage from Zen headbutt, which every other major counter is weak to

Cons:

  • Still a rare species, though definitely worth investing in.
Conkeldurr Conkeldurr
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Pros:

  • Great overall counter, had a great mix of DPS and TDO.
  • Second strongest choice behind Lucario, basically a stronger Machamp.
  • Currently semi-common, its species has been a raid boss for a while.

Cons:

  • 200 candy to evolve if not traded.
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Pros:

  • Face it; you probably already have a team of 6 ready.
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Pros:

  • Fairly common species in many areas, especially in sunny weather.

Cons:

  • Fairly frail, benefits from dodging.
Counters Viable at Lv.30
Blaziken Blaziken
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Pros:

  • Fairly common species that has been featured in its own Community Day.
  • Resists Vine Whip

Cons:

  • A tad weaker than its compatriots, and Focus Blast's status as a 1-bar move makes it a bit less reliable.
Hariyama Hariyama
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Pros:

  • Fairly common for many players.

Cons:

  • Basically a worse Machamp, which itself is a worse Conkeldurr.
