PVE Offensive Moves Explanation

  • Razor Leaf outperforms Bullet Seed and is the better pick overall, but the latter isn't too far behind.
  • Solar Beam gains STAB and enables Cherrim to fulfill a Grass-type role.
  • Weather Ball lacks STAB, but being a 3-bar move makes it easier to use before fainting.
  • Dazzling Gleam has little use on Cherrim.
  • Hyper Beam is bad, TM this.

PVE Defensive Moves Explanation

  • Razor Leaf hits much harder on defense, which makes it more valuable than Bullet Seed
  • Dazzling Gleam is the only 2-bar option available, and is quite good against common Fighting and Dragon-type attackers.
  • Weather Ball can be used frequently as a 3-bar move, making it more appealing on defense.
  • Solar Beam and Hyper Beam are both terrible for defense, but at least the former gets STAB.

PVE Overview

Cherrim is another one of those interesting Pokemon that's fun to look at but ultimately serves little use in the meta. At this point of the game there's already plenty of other Grass-type Pokemon with much better stats and movesets, which makes Cherrim not great for anything other than the Stardust upon catching it.

PvP Moveset Explanation

Bullet Seed or Razor Leaf + Weather Ball and Dazzling Gleam or Solar Beam

Bullet Seed is generally recommended for its high energy generation, giving Cherrim access to its charge moves much sooner. Razor Leaf can be chosen for its powerful STAB damage, but consequently gives up energy generation.

Weather Ball is the primary distinction between Cherrim and other Grass-types, costing the least amount of energy possible while giving Cherrim easy access to Fire-type coverage. Dazzling Gleam can be elected for its Fairy-type coverage, though it demands a lot of energy to use. Solar Beam costs the most amount of energy, and also threatens potential KOs if unshielded.

PvP Rating Explanation

Great League: 3.5 / 5

The Sunny variant of Cherrim is significantly better than its Overcast Form, primarily thanks to the addition of Weather Ball (FIre) from the April 2020 rebalance. Fast access to Fire-type coverage lets Cherrim stand out among other Grass-types, and the combination of high energy gains and low charge move costs gives Cherrim strong shield pressure capabilities. The potential threat of a Solar Beam KO is always in the back of the opponent's mind, making Cherrim great for bait-and-nuke plays, but consequently also resulting in inconsistencies when dealing with Water Pokemon due to the reliance on Solar Beam.

Ultra League: 0.5 / 5

Cherrim has a max CP of 2048, which is lackluster for Ultra League.

Master League: 0.5 / 5

Interestingly Cherrim's access to Grass-type coverage gives it some play even in Master League, due to the frequent usage of Kyogre, Groudon, Rhyperior, and Swampert, all of which are weak to Grass. However, this is the only niche Cherrim has going for it, and is also reliant on successful baits and unshielded Solar Beams.
