Overview

Shiftry is a brand new boss, and offers two new challenges:

  • If you did not attend special events like Go Fest you’ve probably never caught a Shiftry
  • Shifty is a tier 4 that can be soloed!

Bugs are not especially powerful in Pokemon Go, but with Shiftry’s double weakness it is their time to shine. Pinsir and Scizor are your go-to options here, with Scyther & Heracross barely missing the clock and making great filler mon. Moltres (Clear) and Machamp (Cloudy) are filler options as well in the appropriate weather that are capable of soloing on their own with some nice RNG.

Approach

Team composition

  • Scizor and Pinsir are ready to rock!

  • Scyther, Heracross, and weather boosted Moltres & Machamp can help

  • The lobby glitch is highly recommended for this raid, as every second will be important

Dodging strategy

  • Leaf Blade is weak enough against the bugs that dodging isn’t required

  • Pinsir especially should dodge a handful of Hurricane or Foul Play

  • A re-lobby is essentially a loss. Make sure your team of 6 survives, but don’t lose sight of the main goal (doing enough damage to win!)

  • The dodge/death loop glitch should not be an issue in this solo raid.

Note: "Good" movesets are not necessarily viable at the level indicated.

Best Raid Boss Counters

Counters viable at level 40 in all weather
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating
  • Will need to dodge vs Foul Play and Hurricane move sets
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating
  • Bulkier but slower than Pinsir

  • Will need to dodge vs Foul Play. Can tank other moves

Fast MoveCharge MoveRating
  • Bug Buzz is legacy

  • On the lower end of viability. Struggles to create enough energy vs Leaf Blade. Must dodge vs Foul Play and Hurricane, but dodging slows damage per second

Counters viable at level 40 in cloudy weather
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating
  • Strongest against Foul Play

  • Very difficult solo vs Hurricane & Leaf Blade. Will require minimal dodging to survive.

Counters viable at level 40 in clear weather
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating
Counters viable at level 40 in rain
Heracross Heracross
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating
  • Heracross is useless vs Hurricane
