Supereffective Week

Niantic's latest event for Pokemon Go is beginning soon, this time featuring a focus on PVP, Team Rocket battles, and a small but very significant bonus for Raids.

Event Bonuses

Pokemon with typings that give them advantages against Team Rocket will be appearing in greater numbers in the wild, as research rewards, and as raid bosses

For trainers who do not yet have a good set of counters, this could be a huge boone. Despite the fact that Niantic hasn't stated exactly what Pokemon will be spawning, the most logical conclusion is that they're Pokemon that specifically counter the recently released Team Rocket bosses. In order to get a good idea as to what is worth focusing on here, please take a look at our pages for the Team Rocket bosses and our PVP tier lists.

Trainer battles grant 2x normal Stardust

This is not a huge bonus, but it is one worth taking advantage of regardless. Niantic is trying to give players more incentive to try PVP content, and being able to earn up to 3,000 Stardust in a short period of time is definitely a bonus worth considering.

Pokestops will grant more Potions and Revives than normal when spun

While some of us may consider this a curse, many players still struggle with having enough Potions and Revives to be able to actually join in on the meaningful content of the game, making this a niche but still important bonus.

Three-Star Raids will give a guaranteed Charged TM on completion

Most players will agree that this is the greatest bonus of the event; getting a free Charged TM from every Three Star raid is huge, and rewards those players that have worked hard to be able to solo these raids in particular, while keeping them accessible enough for even low-leveled players to take advantage of. It may be worth spending your raid passes here for the duration if you need charged TMs!

Shiny Tentacool will see its global release

Legendary within the Pokemon Go community as Niantic CEO John Hanke's favorite Pokemon, Tentacool and Tentacruel will see their grand release with a particularly striking shiny forme.

While this event may not seem like the most exciting on the surface, it seems to have at least something for everyone, making it worth giving it at least some effort. The Terrakion Release event is next, with another set of bonuses that will follow directly after this event!
