My discord was hyped about hopping to get gible from this event, mostly because its Gible, and its an egg boosting event.

This isnt a whining and complaining post about the death and destruction that will ensue in some players from not getting it, but rather a thought one.

Garchomp got Dragontail/Outrage, from what has been found in the code, information that was accurate to the other movesets of various pokemon, so I think we can take this as it will have the moves that were found. As an attacker, will there be much reason to not evolve a gible and wait for a community day was the question my discord was debating about.

Peronally, I feel theres no good answer for this. On one side, we have something with near dragonite attack stat, but much more bulk and one of the best generalist movesets in the game, and one of the best ground sets it could have gotten, though that isnt saying much so it would be an invaluable member of almost any team. While the other side would be look at the starters moves and meteor mash metagross. Imagining a pokemon like garchomp with moves like that is a terrifying thought as to what the pokemon could do.

With the double moveset being a thing now, a garchomp could carry some hypothetical CD move, and the best move of its other type, but waiting wuld also mean you are without one of potentially the best attackers of gen 4 for a while. (if we get a bagon CD febuary, then following the 4month pseudo legendary pattern, gible would only need to wait until june)
Personally, and I know im in the minority on this, im hoping they give garchomp dragon rush, Gigaimpact might also be a possibility, give it is a very notable use of that, but the same can be said for it an dragonrush. A lot get annoyed at the dragon's preferential treatment, but they get it for a reason. A good ground set on it could be good, but Precipice blades on groudon looms over even groudon.

The possibility of CDs does throw a wrench in a lot of plans, especially with examples of metagross and mudkip coming up later this year. I really with they start making some sort of schedule farther along (3-4 months ahead at least) to give us an idea of what to look forward to.

Gibble has a real good chance of getting his own day: 3 stages, no special evolution requirements, and a mega form. That being said if i happen to get enough candy before that day i might evolve one anyway since he looks like he can hold his own without a special move

Eh.

It already gets access to the best moves of both its types. I won't be too stressed about the eventual community day. Dragonite got a novelty move for its Community Day, we could see the same for Garchomp. I think to play it safe I'll evolve whatever my 2nd best catch is, just in case they pull a Metagross on it and give it something pants-shittingly broken.

I wouldn't mind Dragon Rush as Gible' s CD move. It was it's signature move in Gen4 and I can also see it being Meteor Mash tier in Go.

However, I think I would prefer a ground move instead. Earthquake isn't good, and Earth Power was found in the coding. So maybe it will also get it. Everyone knows that PB Groudon will be best Ground type, but it's a Legendary. Not everyone has the ability or the resources to get one and max it out. Let's not forget that Groudon is pure ground. Garchomp will be better in a lot of matchup like Zekrom for example when Gen5 hits.

dragon rush never was its signature move, signature moves are ones learnt exclusively by one family. It was a notable user yes, like metagross with meteor mash, but not the only one to learn it.

Some signature moves can be learned by multiple families. Meteor Mash for example, which can be learned by Clefairy and Riolu even outside of events.

Signature moves, were by definition moves learnt by a single family. What you're thinking of is a move closely associated with a pokemon

The line between what is and isn't signature based on that link is massively blurred. What's signature one generation isn't the next, some moves that are signature get passed around via events and distributions, some signatures have exceptions like Lugia learning Psycho Boost.

I think at this point there needs to be a split between signature and exclusive moves, where signature is a move heavily associated with one species or family (e.g. Metagross and Meteor Mash) and exclusive means only that Pokemon can learn it (e.g. Latios and Luster Purge), with the exception of Smeargle being able to learn any move in game.

Psycho boost lugia wasnt event locked, it was in one game.

For signature moves that were signature moves for ne generation or a few, that is why they are now referred to as 'former' signature moves, ie Megahorn with heracross, the elemental hyperbeams for the kanto starters, etc.

But about dragon rush, multiple pokemon learn dragon rush by level up, not just garchomp's line. I agree with you on that close association with moves, but its still not garchomp's signature move, its closely associated with garchomp, but signature move isnt the right word.

I don't think Garchomp needs any kind of a boost with a CD move. It's already one of the best PvE pokemon in the game with the moves it has in the game master now. And I don't see them adding two exclusive charge moves with future CDs, so I'll probably go ahead and evolve my best one when I need it. If one moveset gets outclassed, there's always the other one.

I had completely forgotten the fact that the gible line was part of gen 4 and that we are way overdue for its release tbh

Sounds like your Discord group is as stupid as you are.... seriously please don’t ever confuse the complete bullshit you post 99% of the time with having a thought
