Trading and distance limit

Hi, I read an article on niantic official website
https://support.pokemongo.nianticlabs.com/hc/en-us/articles/360001518407-Trading-Pok%C3%A9mon

It says we need to be near our friend to exchange a pokemon. But there's an "award" in pokemon saying : "Traded a pokemon on a 1000km distance"

... so can we trade on long distance ?

You can only make a trade with a person that is physically close to you.

You can however physically go somewhere, catch a Pokemon, bring it back home, and trade with a local trainer.

For example, I caught some Pokemon in Spain on vacation. Back in Canada, I can trade them for over 6000km each with Pokemon caught in Canada.

I think it is not always clear what they refer to :
- You have to be physically near your friend at the moment of the trade (100meterish)
- "You can trade pokemon over a 1000km distance" is a bit unclear but refers to the distance in between the places were the 2 pokemons were caught.

Meaning that I can trade a pokemon with a friend nearby, but that pokemon can be caught far away. For instance trading stuff that were caught in USA with some caught in Europe or anywhere else will easely pass the 1000km distance.

Without going to the website I'm guessing it allows spoofers to schedule "visits" to one another.

well as stated on the front page "This is a platform enabling trainers to list their pokémon and their wishlist to let NEARBY trainers get in touch with each other"

It is actually kinda convenient, me use something similar in my town, then it makes it easy to see if anyone has what you look for or is interested in your stuff

There's two parts to this answer:

1) You must be within 100 meters (about 400 feet) to trade.

2) All Pokémon are geotagged with the approximate location where they were caught. (I don't remember how granular the S2 square level is; I think it's 18). If you trade Pokémon, they include a distance that counts towards both that medal and how much candy you receive in a trade. (0.0-9.9 km is 1 candy, 10-99.9km nets you two, and 100km+ nets you 3).

For example, if I traded a Beldum caught in Nashville to my children for a Beldum caught in London, they'd need to be near me but would gain 3 candy and 7000km on their distance medal.

Well, they could be spoofing to a location where they'd be within 100m of each other.

Also, Alolan eggs keep the location of origin, not where they were opened. So if you have friends around the world, you can pick up a limited selection of mon from around the world too!

Theres a whole section on this site dedicated to acquiring international friends.

They're not. It's just a tool to assist trainers with arranging trades, which do need to be done in proximity to each other (within 100 metres).

Weird how all your replies have the address to the site.
