Trading changes IV's?

Hey nerds, long time no see. I'm the legend who always used to say how i've quit the game. Most of you hated me lol.

Anyway, what's the deal with IV's not staying the same when you trade? I think that's a terrible thing and will significantly lessen the value of trading. My spare 100% ray was going to be a big bargaining tool. (i only did 4 ray raids, miraculously two of them were 100%.) But now there's no point trading it.

Poor move by Niantic.

Concering the black market, if people want to buy pre-caught Pokemon for some insane reason, they deserve to be parted with their money

Good move by Niantic actually, so that guys who play only for trading dont earn as much

Instead the most value will be on level 35 weather boosted pokemon no matter what their IVs, and poor IV pokemon with legacy moves.

Also possible IV ranges for the reroll of traded pokemon will improve with friendship level, so trading with friends in your play group will be better than trading with strangers.

At least you can trade bad IV mons

If you're only friends, IVs go down. If you're Best Friends, IVs may go up or down. Will insure that people can't trade for 100% ones, unless they get lucky. Also, a pokemon can only be traded once, so you can't shuttle stuff back and forth until it maxes out, or stock up on a regional to trade with someone traveling for them to trade away.

Welcome back, Harry.

Back from retirement again, I see!

I echo your sentiments, 100% Rayquaza aside. While the IV reshuffling was an absolutely necessary move on Niantic's part, I think the trading aspect of the game has been made underwhelming by the number of additional restrictions put in place. The stardust cost plus the one-special-trade-per-day restriction plus the Pokemon-can-be-traded-only-once restriction plus the must-be-within-100m restriction plus the IV-reshuffling makes it overall not a worthwhile use of resources. You can argue that each and perhaps all of those restrictions make sense, but ultimately do you have any interest in actually trading now? I don't see any reason to trade for the next 3 months, and even then, I doubt I'll do much of it. Ultimately, trading, if implemented poorly, could have broken the game; instead Niantic went too conservative and made it a mostly pointless addition.

The battle system is by far the most stale and disappointing aspect of the game right now and has been for many months. I wish they had spent their time and resources trying to revamp that as opposed to trying to find the right balance to keep trading from breaking the game while still having value (and failing, in my opinion).

Yes, I'll trade for regionals.

I gotta get to be BFFs with world travelers first, though.

Id like to chime in with a question. I was doing some trading for the first time and noticed that when i obtained a “lucky” pokemon, I wasn’t able to check their iv. I assume because of the change in stardust cost. Is there a way to find out a luckys true iv?
