Overview

The first of the Galarian Regi-duo to hit Pokemon Go, Regidrago breaks into Elite Raids with a roar and sits atop gyms where it dares trainers to challenge its pure, concentrated might. But why exactly is Regidrago an Elite Raid? Is it because of its sheer power? Nope, not at all. How about its in-game utility? Definitely not! Honestly, the main reason that Regidrago has entered the game as an Elite Raid boss has to be the fact that it wouldn't be too difficult to be a soloable Tier-5 boss if it was released normally.

Regidrago is built in a manner somewhat similar to Chansey; a bulky Pokemon that gets most of its bulk from its titanic HP stat. But we all know how that goes for raids; its low Defense betrays it and makes it a squishy punching-bag, while its low damage output leaves it unable to fight back extremely hard. Team up two good players and this won't be a hard duo.

Elite Raid Note:

Elite Raids are a unique tier of raid that have not fully been identified stat-wise. They sport 20,000 HP and a CP that does not quite line up with expectations, meaning their Attack and Defense stats may vary slightly from what is generally forecasted.

Approach

Team composition

  • Regidrago is weak to Dragon, Fairy, and Ice Types. In general, type-priorities should follow that order as well.

    • Dragons hit the hardest, but tend to drop faster than other types, especially when facing Outrage.

    • The top Fairy Types tend to sport the highest overall performance, with DPS just below the Dragons and absurdly high TDO. However, most players won't have a full Fairy team ready to go, meaning they will tend to be a bit rarer to see fighting Regidrago.

    • The top Ice Types make good fillers, but aren't extremely note-worthy outside of Snowy weather.

  • Mega Gardevoir is the VIP here, sporting DPS close to the top Dragon Mega Evolutions with an absurdly high TDO to back it up

  • A multitude of Pokemon can score above duo-viable DPS, so picking TDO options can be helpful for ensuring a victory. Slow and steady wins the race in this case.

  • That said, front-load your DPS options to beat this dragonic orb into submission ASAP.

Battling strategy

  • Evasion is a great idea, as most teams should have DPS to spare and most of Regidrago's attacks have high base power.
  • When a Pokemon is low on HP, don't evade if it's unlikely to hit its next Charged Move. Wasting energy isn't helpful for beating the clock.

Note: "Good" movesets are not necessarily viable at the level indicated.

Best Raid Boss Counters

Supreme Mega Evolution Counters

Mega Gardevoir Mega Gardevoir
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

While it may not have the highest DPS, Mega Gardevoir has far-and-away the highest average performance on this list. Thanks to its outstanding resistance set, this monster of a Mega double-resists Regidrago's best stuff and lasts for a very long time on average. And while its DPS isn't the top, it's actually just slightly below Mega Salamence, and still absolutely in the top tier for making Regidrago go "squish".

  • Weaknesses: -
  • Strengths: Dragon Pulse (2x), Outrage (2x)
Mega Salamence Mega Salamence
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

The top DPS Mega (by a very small margin), Mega Salamence hits hard and can make Regidrago reel in pain pretty quickly. However, on paper it's basically a worse Mega Gardevoir in this raid; it sports nearly-identical average DPS, but far lower DPS due to its weakness to Dragon Type moves. So what makes Mega Salamence worth using over Mega gardevoir? The fact that it boosts Dragon Types while on the field. In general, you're going to see players pull out Dragons to fight Regidrago, and with good reason thanks to their very high average DPS. And this is where Mega Salamence can really shine, as if you have 2-3 other players running Rayquaza or ideally the two big-name Shadow Dragons, then Mega Salamence' presence on the field will result in tremendous DPS that will knock Regidrago flat very quickly.

  • Weaknesses: Dragon Pulse, Outrage
  • Strengths: -

Good mega Evolution Counters

Mega Latios Mega Latios
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Actually pretty close to Mega Salamence in this raid, but being weak to Regidrago's only Fast Move pushes it a bit farther down the list.

  • Weaknesses: Bite, Dragon Pulse, Outrage
  • Strengths: -
Primal Groudon Primal Groudon
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

I suppose that even having a Dragon Type fast move is enough for this behemoth to shoehorn its way into this heading. Primal Groudon doesn't have any note-worthy interactions in this raid, but it's just a very solid average performer that most players should have ready to go.

  • Weaknesses: -
  • Strengths: -
Mega Alakazam Mega Alakazam
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

It's a bit hard to justify using an Elite TM to get Dazzling Gleam, but Mega Alakazam's sheer power allows it to at least be a decent option here.

  • Weaknesses: Bite
  • Strengths: -
Mega Sceptile Mega Sceptile
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Well known for its unparalleled Grass performance, Mega Sceptile is actually an okay Dragon Type attacker thanks in part to he very quick Energy Generation of Fury Cutter. It's not outstanding, but it's usable.

  • Weaknesses: Dragon Pulse, Outrage
  • Strengths: -
Mega Charizard X Mega Charizard X
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

A classic middle-of-the-road Mega, Mega Charizard is usable here too.

  • Weaknesses: Dragon Pulse, Outrage
  • Strengths: -
Mega Glalie Mega Glalie
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Honestly, Mega Glalie's only really worth using in Snowy weather and/or if you know as a fact that your raid group is invested heavily in Mamoswine.

  • Weaknesses: -
  • Strengths: -
Mega Latias Mega Latias
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

More of a filler, Mega Latias definitely exists as an option in this raid!

  • Weaknesses: Bite, Dragon Pulse, Outrage
  • Strengths: -
Mega Gyarados Mega Gyarados
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Decent TDO, but ultimately an inferior choice. It's a solid filler-Mega, but don't throw Elite TMs at it to get a Dragon moveset just for this raid.

  • Weaknesses: -
  • Strengths: Bite
Mega Altaria Mega Altaria
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

The dragon famed for its resistance to Dragon Type moves... but, ultimately, it's just a worse Mega Gardevoir. Its one competency is its ability to boost Fairy and Dragon Types while on the field, so it would be a good option for larger raid groups, but larger raid groups aren't going to need help taking down this squishy dragon.

  • Weaknesses: -
  • Strengths: Bite, Dragon Pulse, Outrage

Supreme Counters

Shadow Salamence Shadow Salamence
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

The one true king of Dragons, Salamence soars above the competition in terms of DPS. If you want to smack Regidrago down as quickly as possible, then this is your Pokemon for the job.

  • Weaknesses: Dragon Pulse, Outrage
  • Strengths: -
Shadow Dragonite Shadow Dragonite
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

While not as renowned as Shadow Salamence, Shadow Dragonite is actually every bit as viable, trading a little DPS for extra TDO.

  • Weaknesses: Dragon Pulse, Outrage
  • Strengths: -

Good Counters

ShadowSwine Shadow Mamoswine
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

The top Ice Type counter, this is the go-to counter in Snowy weather or if you've got a friend bringing Mega Glalie to the fight.

  • Weaknesses: -
  • Strengths: -
Rayquaza Rayquaza
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

The original Dragon Legend, Rayquaza still retains its notoriety thanks to its outstanding Attack and moveset. Speaking of; Outrage and Breaking Swipe are very close to one another, but the latter has vastly superior dodging potential, so it's probably the better option for anyone doing more than just tapping their screen.

  • Weaknesses: Dragon Pulse, Outrage
  • Strengths: -
ShadowGardevoir Shadow Gardevoir
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

The top Fairy Type, Shadow Gardevoir sports the same advantages as Mega Gardevoir, but to a lesser degree. A very good all-around counter that's worth adding to the team.

  • Weaknesses: -
  • Strengths: Dragon Pulse (2x), Outrage (2x)
Shadow-Latias Shadow Latias
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating
  • Weaknesses: Bite, Dragon Pulse, Outrage

Best known for its Electrical Power, Zekrom is still a great option as a Dragon Type as well.

  • Weaknesses: Dragon Pulse, Outrage
  • Strengths: -
Garchomp Garchomp

Best known for its Ground type Power, Garchomp is still a great option as a Dragon Type as well.

Shadow Mewtwo Shadow Mewtwo

The universal counter strikes again, this time sporting Ice Beam to freeze Regidrago in place.

  • Weaknesses: Bite
  • Strengths: -
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

The famed tank-dragon, Dialga has a great overall performance in this raid, and is the only top counter that actually resists Hyper Beam!

  • Weaknesses: -
  • Strengths: Hyper Beam
Galarian Darmanitan Galarian Darmanitan
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Snow monke.

  • Weaknesses: -
  • Strengths: -
Reshiram Reshiram
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

In a manner similar to Zekrom, Reshiram is best known for its other type's sheer power; in this case Fire. Unlike Zekrom, its Dragon Type moveset isn't really good enough to give it noteriety, literally turning up as a clone of Dialga, but without the useful sub-type.

  • Weaknesses: Dragon Pulse, Outrage
  • Strengths: -
Shadow Granbull Shadow Granbull
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Surprisingly good in this raid, Shadow Granbull can take on pretty much anything that Regidrago can throw its way and keep swinging.

  • Weaknesses: -
  • Strengths: Bite, Dragon Pulse (2x), Outrage (2x)
Mamoswine Mamoswine
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Ice pig-ephant!

Tank Counters

Zacian Zacian - Hero of Many Battles
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

While low on DPS, Zacian likes to stick around for a very long time. If you happen to have one raised for the Master League and lack other good options for this raid, it can definitely slot in.

  • Weaknesses: -
  • Strengths:  Bite, Dragon Pulse, Outrage
Togekiss Togekiss
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating
  • Weaknesses: -
  • Strengths:  Bite, Dragon Pulse, Outrage
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Arguably the best budget option due to how common Eevee is, Sylveon is going to need some DPS help from the rest of the team, but can still work well enough

  • Weaknesses: -
  • Strengths:  Bite, Dragon Pulse, Outrage
