PVE Offensive Moves Explanation

  • Mud Shot is the better move of choice, as it gets STAB.
  • Extrasensory doesn't have any use for a Ground-type.
  • Sandsear Storm is Landorus's best charged attack, and makes it a top Ground attacker.
  • Earthquake can be used if Sandsear Storm is unavailable, though its performance dips significantly.
  • Bulldoze is inferior in damage output, but is consistent as a 2-bar move.
  • Superpower lacks STAB.
  • Stone Edge is good but not meant for Landorus.

PVE Overview

Landorus Therian Forme is one of the best Ground-type attackers in the game, with an ATK stat higher than any non-Mega Ground-type in the game including Groudon. Sandsear Storm gives Landorus Therian a performance comparable to that of Precipice Blades Groudon, making Landorus a mighty addition to Ground-type parties. Keep in mind that Landorus Therian is somewhat fragile and can be hindered by its Flying subtyping, however.

PvP Moveset Explanation

Mud Shot + Sandsear Storm* and Stone Edge

Mud Shot benefits from STAB and is preferred for its very high energy generation. Extrasensory is underwhelming.

Sandsear Storm is a fairly cheap STABed charged attack that debuffs opponents. Superpower was formerly Landorus-T's primary choice for covering Steel-type Pokemon due to its cheap cost and high DPE, but its self debuff can make Landorus-T difficult to use in extended fights. Stone Edge is a strong complementary move to significantly damage Pokemon that resist Sandsear Storm. Earthquake is a terrifyingly powerful STAB option that can almost OHKO most Pokemon that don't resist it, but Landorus-T's relatively frailty makes it hard to consistently reach the move's heavy cost, especially when shields are in play. It can be used to pick up surprise KOes, though. Bulldoze is weak and expensive, and has no reason to ever be used over Sandsear Storm.

PvP Rating Explanation

Great League: N/A

Landorus Theiran Forme's CP is too high for Great League. If it can be obtained in the future through other means then it would potentially be eligible for this league.

Ultra League: 2 / 5

Landorus Therian suffers from the CP cap and CP formula significantly more than its Incarnate variant, with very poor bulk compared to other Pokemon in this league. Its moveset lets it hard counter Registeel, and if Stone Edge is chosen then Flying-types like Charizard and Talonflame can be threatened as well. However this is rather niche, and other Pokemon can fulfill this role more comfortable.

Master League: 4.5 / 5

Landorus-T is a top threat in the Master League, owing to its wonderful coverage between Sandsear Storm and Stone Edge. Many Pokemon are weak to Ground and Rock, and the combination is also almost unresisted, allowing Landorus-T to overcome its rather middling stat product. The ability to pressure both Steel-type Pokemon and the Flying-type Pokemon that's often paired with them makes Landorus-T an excellent corebreaker. Even in losing matchups, Landorus-T can leave behind a parting gift in the form of Sandsear Storm's debuffs to support its teammates. Furthermore, Landorus-T's ATK stat is one of the highest in the game, allowing it to win the vast majority of CMPs.

Landorus-T's wide coverage makes it challenging to wall, but its frailty ensures that it is not difficult to take out. Kyogre can easily take out Landorus-T due to its type advantage. Ice-type Pokemon like Mamoswine and Hisuian Avalugg are major problems, although they are vulnerable to the occasional Superpower. Mewtwo and Giratina-O both win in a direct 1v1 thanks to their superior stats and damage output, but can be overwhelmed by Sandsear Storms if they are slightly behind in energy. Finally, Palkia threatens it thanks to the combination of oppressive Dragon Breath damage and Aqua Tail.
