General Information

A return to the shop events of old, this event has one ticket class that can buy everything in the shop. As usual, the featured sync pair (in this case May & Swampert) will have an advantage in the proceedings of the event, though they will not be strictly necessary by any means. The top rewards include a total of 920 gems, a set of all three Move Candy coins (universal move candy coins when?), and power-up candies from the Full Force battles.

I sure do hope that you like the sun! Most of this team’s strategy revolves entirely around controlling the weather, as many of these sync pairs receive downright ridiculous buffs while it’s active. The prime choices here are to either hide the sun with other weather setters like May & Swampert, or simply ignore it and power through. Capitalizing on it yourself can be difficult due to the fact that most members of the opposing team have Fire Guard, making a number of the more common Sun strikers useless.

Emboar is surprisingly bulky and can be difficult to break through. It will commonly be able to score 1-2 Sync Moves even if you’re packing powerful Ground Type damage, meaning the sun will stay active through much of its time on the field. Steelix is not particularly threatening, as its damage is low, but it does have a plethora of supportive options and the ability to raise its own attack stat, so it can become an issue if not played right. Try to bring a Special Attacker to deal with it, as Physical Attacks will basically ensure that it can hit +6 attack quickly. Infernape is basically a less bulky Emboar, but it does have solid damage and the ability to bring the sun back into play, meaning it can sweep a weakened team easily, especially given its ability to boost its Critical Rate. Many of the Pokemon on the opponent’s team spread around fire attacks, meaning burns will be fairly common. Arguably the most threatening side Pokemon here is Nidoqueen, as it not only ensures that its Flamethrower will burn with Hostile Environment 9, it can also spread the Badly Poisoned status with Toxic, meaning it will eat your tank alive if not dealt with quickly or if you don’t have a way to remove status. The dual Rapidash at the end of the Right and Left are not particularly threatening, but they do boost their own Special Defense every time that they’re hit, meaning they can become hard to kill if you start throwing weak attacks at them.

F2P Teamset:

Skyla & Swanna + Barry & Empoleon + Misty & Starmie

Skyla & Swanna has outstanding synergy with Misty & Starmie. Together, they have solid odds of maxing both Defense, Special Defense, and Speed, two different ways to quickly heal, the ability to give regeneration, increase evasion, and even have solid odds of removing status. They work wonders when combined with Empoleon, who can score extremely solid Sync Nuke damage and prey on the fact that most of the opposing sync pairs are weak to Water.
