Sync Spotlight/Should You Pull?: Holiday Erika & Comfey

TL;DR: Should You Pull?

What Does It Do?

Variant of Glacia and Glalie, since both offer X Regen All and a 1 Bar Sync Grinder. Its main niche is to remove the team’s stat debuffs, which can come in useful on teams whose striker utilizes self weakening Trainer Moves. These would include Sync Pairs like Sygna Suit Red, Olivia, and Hilbert (Fall 2020). However, there is only one use of it, which greatly limits its efficiency in the Battle Villa and Legendary Arena.

As a designated tank, Erika & Comfey has some useful perks, like restoring the Move Gauge by 6 in a pinch, as well as Impatient 1, which gives a small chance to reduce the Sync Move Countdown by 1 when hit. The former is the most useful upfront since it is a Passive Skill, and can be a good way to manage longer fights. The latter is a nice bonus for 3/5 Comfey owners but is wildly inconsistent.

Her basic toolkit revolves around Status elimination, which is great in a vacuum, but not so necessary considering the kinds of stages available to date. It is also not guaranteed, unlike Barry and Marley. Considering the wealth of better support options available, Comfey is best used as a substitute for the third team slot, particularly in game modes that have a roster restriction.

How Do I Use It? (Grid, Lucky Skills, And Comps):

A simple Comfey Grid build that delivers the necessary tools. Much of the energy investment goes into MPR nodes while snagging the aforementioned Impatient 1, and the random Lei Up Shared Fortune 2. Players could also opt to stack 3 MGRs on Vine Whip so that Comfey can act as a semi-reliable move battery.

Erika (Holiday 2020) works best to offset the stat drops from an ally’s Trainer Move, which puts her in good stead beside Sync Pairs like Sygna Suit Red, Olivia, and Hilbert (2020). Her inability to boost in an offensive capacity means that the other slot is highly dependent on the Striker used. Self-sufficient Strike Sync Pairs could afford running regenerative support like Skyla or disruptors like Serena. There is also a one size fits all answer in Sygna Suit Leaf, though that is more of a testament to Venusaur’s general superiority than its synergy with Comfey.

Is It Worth Pulling?

No: Her niche is, theoretically, a “nice to have” asset, but nowhere near compulsory or consistent enough to make her a must pull. MPRs and non Move Point dependent buffers are usually a better draw than the seasonal Sync Pair. For example, players who already have Glacia, Sygna Suit Leaf, or Sygna Suit Blue would be better off sticking with what they already have. This cuts into her banner appeal, considering her current offering is in close proximity to the Kanto Trio PokeFair Banner. While she is much more usable as a 3/5, it is still not really worth that much investment to obtain her at that level.
