EX Flannery: Encounter Notes

  • Torkoal is extremely tanky! It has particularly high Sp.Def, and will take a while to beat down.
  • On Very Hard mode, Torkoal is immune to all status effects except for Flinch, making Crasher Wake & Floatzel a decent option.

Meditite Method + Video (Fastest Method)

Host Team
Guest Teams

Left / Middle / Right

Host: Winona & Pelipper / Maylene & Meditite / Kris & Feraligatr

Both Guests: Any Water Sync Pair / Kris & Feraligatr / Any Water Sync Pair

  • Winona & Pelipper: Casts Rain Dance to enhance Water damage and block Sunny Day.
  • Kris & Feraligatr: Deals the bulk of the damage.
  • Maylene & Meditite: Acts to buff up Kris & Feraligatr.

Roxanne Method + Video (Always consistent, optimized)

Host Team
Guest Teams

Left / Middle / Center

Host: Thorton & Bronzong / Kris & Feraligatr / Winona & Pelipper

Both Guests: Physical Attacker / Kris & Feraligatr / Roxanne & Nosepass

  • Winona & Pelipper: Casts Rain Dance to enhance Water damage and block Sunny Day.
  • Kris & Feraligatr: Deals the bulk of the damage.
  • Thorton & Bronzong: Casts Telekinesis on Torkoal to ensure Mega Kick does not miss.
  • Roxanne & Nosepass: Protects allies from Explosion damage. It is possible to run only one Roxanne & Nosepass, in which the second Wide Guard step should be changed to the fodder Sync Pair (Bronzong, or the pair that replaces Roxanne for Guests).
  • Physical Attacker: Best candidate as a filler would be Crasher Wake & Floatzel or any other Water-type physical attacker.

Notes from ZedruuMD:

  • This should be 100% consistent regardless of burns or critical hits.
  • Attack windows are somewhat tight to reach 1st Unity Attack in time.
  • Equipment Required: The Host must equip a lv15 2* Rock/Flying/Grass/Fire Pin to survive a critical Flame Wheel from Torkoal on Turn 3.

The below video demonstrates the Nosepass strategy with 3x Kris & Feraligatr:

It is also possible to use this strategy if the host has Crasher Wake & Floatzel instead of Kris & Feraligatr:

F2P Friend(lier) Method + Video

Host: Crasher Wake & Floatzel / Winona & Pelipper / Phoebe & Dusclops

Guest A: Any Water (Misty & Starmie used in vid) / Thorton & Bronzong / Kris & Feraligatr

Guest B: Crasher Wake & Floatzel / Kris & Feraligatr / Rosa & Serperior

  • Host starts with Winona & Pelipper to use Rain Dance and lock Flannery out of Sunny Day.
  • Guest A starts with Thorton & Bronzong's Telekinesis to ensure Mega Kick doesn't miss.
  • Guest B starts out with Kris & Feraligatr to deal out some pain.
  • NOTE: This strategy, like the other Winona strategy, takes advantage of the fact that Flannery will always start off with "No Change In Forecast!", which prevents the weather from changing. Immediately starting out with Rain Dance will force the weather to be locked to Rainy, preventing Flannery from being able to use Sunny Day.

Kris/Phoebe/Crasher Wake Method + Video (Slower, More safety)

Host: Phoebe & Dusclops / Kris & Feraligatr / Crasher Wake & Floatzel

Guests: Phoebe & Dusclops / Kris & Feraligatr / Any

  • All members start with Kris & Feraligatr in the Center.
  • Phoebe & Dusclops should be on the left. * Note a variant that only requires one member to have Phoebe & Dusclops is shown in the video section.
  • The third member (Host: Crasher Wake & Floatzel) is on the right.
  • Ideally the Guests' "Any" slot also is Crasher Wake & Floatzel.
  • NOTE: On Very Hard, Flannery is IMMUNE to all status effects EXCEPT for Flinch! This is why Floatzel works very well: its passive increases the Flinch chance of Waterfall.

Winona/Thorton Method + Video (Semi-consistent, Whale only, not suggested)

Host: Thorton & Bronzong / Winona & Pelipper / Phoebe & Dusclops (Caution! Without promotion, this team will not have enough Team Strength to enter the quest [Hence the "Whale" in the name of the method]. Winona & Pelipper need to be upgraded to 5*. For this reason this strategy is not recommended for most players. It is possible to sub in Thorton with a Water-type such as Crasher Wake & Floatzel, and change the final Unity to an all-Water Unity Attack).

Guest A: Any / Thorton & Bronzong / Kris & Feraligatr

Guest B: Any / Kris & Feraligatr / Any

  • The Host starts with Winona & Pelipper to immediately start with Rain Dance and lock Flannery out of Sunny Day.
  • Guest A starts with Thorton & Bronzong.
  • Guest B starts out with Kris & Feraligatr.
  • All "Any" slots can be filled with Striker units, or Crasher Wake & Floatzel.
  • NOTE: This strategy takes advantage of the fact that Flannery will always start off with "No Change In Forecast!", which prevents the weather from changing. Immediately starting out with Rain Dance will force the weather to be locked to Rainy, preventing Flannery from being able to use Sunny Day.
