Released on PC by Gravity in 2002, Ragnarok Online is still rolling along with a brand new update. Published in many countries all over the world, many old-school players remember it fondly for the large-scale PvP events, non-linear character development, and unique graphics that wonderfully blend 2D and 3D. Those elements are still strong in the game, and only broadening as time moves on. And October 2019 is no exception!
Ragnarok Online has released an exciting new update that promises some festive content that's sure to whet your whistle! Update 185 starts us off with an auspicious romp through the Oktoberfest-inspired "Legendary Sommelier of Midgard". Players can find a cup of wheat beer in their RodEx inbox, along with an invitation for a beer tasting event. Find a Beer Sommelier in the capital, and he'll tell you where you can find other delicious brews to enjoy! If you can find them all and give them a swill, you'll receive your very own.... Sommelier's Hat! A unique costume item with some really great bonuses. The bonuses will be active through the entirety of the event (October 2 - 9 2019), and you can keep the hat afterward.
In addition to all the brew-slinging madness, you can battle for the Chest of Envy! Legend tells that this mysterious chest turns friend to foe and exposes everyone's worst selves, for the greatest of rewards. You can enter the Arena via the large Cities of Midgard, by finding the Arena Fighter. The rules of the event are very specific:
Survive the battle, crush your enemies, and claim the Chest of Envy for an unreal amount of Silverines! The event goes live on the 5th of October, 21:00 CEST (3:00pm EDT, 12:00pm PDT)
The biggest news about RO's Update 185, though, are the two new Cities that have been added to the world of Midgard: Louyang and Kunlun! To reach these Cities, you'll need to head to the dock in the port city of Alberta, and talk to one of the two new NPCs you'll meet there. For a low price of only 10,000 Zeny, they'll put you on a ship that will take you to your destination.
Kunlun is a beautiful and richly historic city, featuring an equally beautiful landscape floating among the clouds, though you'll arrive at an aboriginal village at first. To match that awe is a dungeon with three levels of difficultly that will challenge players at each turn. The first level is the Shrine of the Kunlun Queen, populated with monsters at every turn. The second floor, Hermit's Checkers, resembles a series of islands floating in the sky, and features some new monsters as well as old. The third and most difficult floor is Arcadia, where you can meet the powerful boss MVP - Evil Snake Lord. Each floor features some great loot like Royal Jelly and others, and you can even obtain the Evil Snake Lord Card.
The dungeon isn't all that Kunlun has to offer! With several quests around the city, you and your friends will have tons to do and explore!
Louyang is a city that's also known as the "Dragon's Castle", surrounded by a huge stone wall and brimming with surprisingly cheerful folk. While the residents are welcoming, you may want to head to the Watchtower to learn more about the martial arts school that is woven into the culture of Louyang. There's lots to do here as well, with a field surrounding the city that's suitable for novices, and a sea of new quests just waiting for the intrepid adventurer.
The Royal Tomb, the local dungeon, can be found just outside the city. Much like Kunlun, this dungeon is comprised of three levels of increasing difficulty ending in a final that features the boss. Heading further in t the second level of the Tomb brings stronger monsters, and more valuable loot, including some Ninja Suits and Old Purple/Blue Boxes. The third and final level is "Suei Long Gon", and is the most difficult, featuring the boss: MVP - White Lady. Best her, and you can receive the MVP - White Lady Card; a powerful healing-focused item to add to your arsenal.
There's some really great additions to the game, and some very memorable quests to be a part of with this new update; so much that we simply can't cover all of it here. Though, I hear that in Louyang, there's a man by the dock named Jiu Lian Bu, with a particular set of skills, looking for a particular sort of adventurer...
