Newly Advanced AI Technology comes to games

What do you get when you combine Pokemon, Championship Manager, and Dota Auto Chess? You get Raivo. Developed by Utopos Games, Raivo bills itself as "the first game to gamify machine learning". Backed by a $1 million round of seed funding, this game takes AI and gaming to the next level.

Artificially Intelligent Robots

In the game, you will develop a team of highly advanced robots, called Raivos, that you train for battle. Using specially developed AI technology, the robots learn through advanced machine learning. As you train them, they will learn from you and apply the new skills in practice during the game. You will need to need to teach the robots how to choose targets, how to use tools and weapons and how to work together as a team. Essentially they will become your pets and even develop their own personality.

You will then get the opportunity to enter them into an online match to duke it out against Raivos trained by other players from around the world.  During the match the players cannot control their robots - they are fully autonomous and must rely on the skills they have learned in training.

AI Technology

Raivo is powered by UtopAI, a machine learning engine that makes it really easy to use powerful reinforcement learning algorithms in games. Machine learning allows behaviors that are totally unique and based on training the player does. Utopos games developed this AI specifically for the purpose of this game. It doesn't have any dependencies on other libraries, so it is very easy to integrate into any game project. UtopAI will be released for use by other game developers in 2020.

When will it be available?

Raivo is set to launch in the second quarter of 2020 with pre-alpha testing starting at the end of October. You can sign up for the opportunity to preview the game by clicking the button below.

It will initially release on PC with plans to expand to console and mobile at a later time. It will feature a cross-platform multiplayer allowing players from anywhere to match up with each other. It will also be free to play and while you can purchase skins and accessories for your robot, they stated there will NOT be any way to pay to win.

Closing Thoughts

Raivo seems like the next generation in gaming technology. The use of AI in this capacity has the ability to break open so many more opportunities in the gaming world. It is a fascinating use of technology and I can't wait to see how it is utilized. I already signed up for the pre-alpha in hopes of getting a sneak preview of the action because when this game launches, I have a feeling it is going to be big.

About Utopos Games

Raivo is the first game developed by Utopos Games. The studio was founded in May 2019 by a veteran team of game designers, artists and programmers who first worked together 20 years ago on Command & Conquer games at Westwood Studios.

The three founders, Jani Penttinen, Elie Arabian and John Comes, got together early 2019 and started talking about how great it would be to get back to the roots and build fun games together again.

Investment funds byFounders and Sisu Game Ventures agreed with the idea, and so Utopos Games was founded. The whole founding team includes 8 people, all of whom have worked together previously in various combinations. The average industry experience is around 20 years per person.
