There’s a new game streaming app for Galaxy S10 users on 5G phones and it looks pretty incredible.

Cloud gaming has been a relatively new concept in the gaming space, and a lot of companies are trying to get in on the action. The problem, so to speak, of gaming with other players in the communication process between what you do in a game and what your friend does a few miles (or a few thousand miles) away. When you move your character, they need to see that, and they need to see it in a way that allows them to respond. So latency, even less than a second of it, can cause issues.

This issue is so prevalent that if two people connect to the same network and are playing the same game, the game has to run on the slower internet connection speed (in laymen’s terms) so that you can both see what’s happening in unison.

The solution has been around forever, but it just moves the latency from one place to another, and the tech isn’t quite equipped to handle it. Still, gaming in general is moving more and more towards the solution we’ve known (cloud gaming) and finding ways to do it with less and less latency. By running the game in the cloud, or physically in some server room in a controlled environment, your device doesn’t need to be fast enough to keep up with all the processing required. And since you and your friend are both playing in theoretically the same physical server, there’s zero latency between what the two of you can see. And the hardware can be much better. Instead of being limited by your own phone (or television, or gaming system) the only limitation is how fast your movements can get to the server. And then you’re just getting that information “played back” to you like you would a Netflix video.

But 5G speeds are much faster than 4G, and they may be fast enough to solve the latency issue. At least that’s what Hatch is going for.

In a press release on the topic, the VP & GM (Head of Products and Operations, Content & Service Division) of Samsung (Chris Jo) had this to say on the topic –

“The blazing fast speed and low latency of 5G will totally transform mobile gaming, so we’re thrilled to work with Hatch to pioneer 5G gaming in the US. The Galaxy S10 5G is built to do more of what you love – hyperfast – and we’re excited to introduce consumers to a new world of service that can be experienced like never before with 5G”

Membership in Hatch will cost a fee, but a month of that comes free with the new Galaxy S10. Only time will tell if Cloud Gaming becomes the future of gaming (as I anticipate) but this is an excellent step towards knowing those answers.

We’ll keep you up to date as more information becomes available!
