On August 28th, 2019, gameplay streaming website Twitch.tv announced the return of a popular promotion that started in 2017.

SUBtember is the special time of the year where Subway and Twitch come together to celebrate the sub-related pun on the 9th month of the year.

Unsubscribed users will have the unique opportunity to purchase a Tier 1 subscription for 50% off the typical price. This equates to about $2.49 for a typical Twitch sub purchased during the promotion.

The promotion only applies to new subscriptions, not continued, and only works in the desktop web browser version of Twitch.tv.

SUBtember is back and it's better than ever

Additional parts of the promotion include a 10% increase in bits when spending 10 or more, gifted subs from the sandwich corporation Subway itself, and the launch of the official Subway Twitch channel.

SUBtember is an event that has been on Twitch since 2017. During its launch it granted 50% off all new subscriptions, not just Tier 1. In 2018, the promotion tied into their recently launch Gift Subscription feature that allowed anyone with a gifted Tier 1 sub that month to continue it for 80% off, or $1 USD.

Reception on the r/Twitch subreddit seems to be mixed, with many commentators complaining that the event this year will not be as much of an opportunity for community growth than in 2018.
