Swedish Summoner's War Players Beat South Korean Players: Win Handshake from Swedish King

  • Sweden invited some of the top South Korean players of Summoners War to participate in a friendly tournament celebrating their 60-year friendship.
  • No prize money, instead they get to play in front of the Swedish King and shake his hand.

Swedish Summoner's War Players Beat South Korean Players: Win Handshake from Swedish King

In one of my favorite stories in recent memory about the wonderful world of E-sports, a group of three top players from Sweden faced off against three top players from South Korea in the competitive strategy game Summoners War -- and even the Swedish King had a wonderful time.

The South Korean president, Moon Jae-in was also in attendance, and he remarked after the Swedish team beat the South Korean team 3-0 by saying

“I thought Korea is top of the world when it comes to games, but it looks like the Swedish are very good as well”

Moon Jae-in's speech went on to describe the event and the goal of it, expressing how fun it was to see young people playing a game in a competitive environment.

“I am here because I wanted to see young people from our two countries having fun together, and it is all the more meaningful to have his majesty the king here as well. Watching the games today I can see why esports is wildly popular all over the world. Even for a novice like me it is fascinating to watch”

In the end, there was no prize money to be won, and participants all ended up receiving a handshake from Carl XVI Gustav, King of Sweden as a reward for participating.

Preliminaries are coming up for the next world championship of Summoners War to be held in Paris in October. But for the moment, a handshake from a dignitary will do nicely.
