Event Overview

After a short break in September, Brilliant Events are back! This month’s two-part Brilliant Event is Fighting Forces. Expect to see some villains and some heroes this month and prepare for combat. Warner Bros. is promoting “Dark Arts Month” across all corners of the Wizarding World, so keep an eye out for other events as well.

As with previous Brilliant events, this is a great chance to earn exclusive Restricted Section Books as well as scrolls, special event runestones, and more.

The first part is coming in less than 24 hours, on Tues, October 8 at 11:00 PDT / 18:00 GMT and runs for exactly one week, until Tues, October 15 at 11:00 PT / 18:00 GMT. During part one, players will be able to complete Special Assignments and fill in a new Registry page.

The second part of the event will run for one week as well, from Tues, October 22 at 11:00 PDT / 18:00 GMT until Tues, October 29 at 11:00 PT / 18:00 GMT. This week will also introduce a new set of Special Assignments as well as a new Registry page.

Read on for full details of the event plus some tips on how to prepare and how to make the most of the rewards available during this event.

Changes from Previous Brilliant Events

For those who have done the previous Brilliant Events, much of this event will follow a similar format, just with a new theme. However, there have been a few changes worth noting:

  • Traces: The new Foundables available in Trace Encounters this week will act like Oddities, meaning they will attack and will not depart.
  • Oddities: On that note, this Brilliant Event is the first time some non-Brilliant Foundables will be included in increased spawns. Look out for more Pixies and Erklings this week!
  • Spell Books: That's right, Spell Books are now some of the rewards available in the Special Assignments.
  • Store Gift and Bundles: Both parts of the event will feature a free gift as well as two purchase-able bundles. More on these below.
  • Bonus Special Assignment: New to Brilliant Events, Fighting Forces also introduces a Bonus Special Assignment. This will likely only be available after completing Part One and Part Two Special Assignments.
  • Brew Times: Fighting Forces is also the first Brilliant Event to feature additional bonuses. For this one, players will see brew times for all Exstimulo and Healing Potions reduced by 25%.

For those wondering how that brew time math works out, here's the brew time and cost for each of the potions using the standard cauldron and Master Notes during the event:

Potion Time to Complete Cost to Complete
Healing 1 hr, 17 min 8 gold
Basic Exstimulo 1 hr, 17 min 8 gold
Strong Exstimulo 2 hr, 33 min 16 gold
Potent Exstimulo 5 hr, 6 min 31 gold

Update: Since the event has started, several other changes and bonuses have been noted:

  • Tonic for Trace Detection buffed!

Players have reported seeing all kinds of Oddities outside of their usual times and places while using this Tonic during the event. Doxies in broad daylight, Werewolves outside of full moon, Horned Serpents appearing in arid biomes, and even some reports of Dragons appearing outside of their home regions.

While you'll likely need two Tonics for the Special Assignments in Part Two, if you have Tonics to spare, now would be a great time to use them if you're having trouble with certain Oddities.

  • Brilliant Portkeys on the Map

A much requested feature, players can now see which Portkeys are Brilliants before picking them up.

Event Gift and Bundles

As mentioned above, the Fighting Forces event includes a Free Gift available to all players, as well as two bundles available for purchase. Both of the paid bundles can only be purchased once.

Free Gift, SOS Bundle, and Brilliant Bundle

Free Gift

The Free Gift contains:

  • 15 Spell Energy
  • 1 Spell Book

SOS Bundle

The SOS Bundle costs 425 Gold and contains:

Item Ordinary Cost
2 Healing Potions 50
3 Strong Exstimulo Potions 150
25 Spell Energy 50
2 Spell Books Not available
Total 250 Gold + 2 Spell Books

Brilliant Bundle

The Brilliant Bundle costs 925 Gold and contains:

Item Ordinary Cost
5 Healing Potions 125
5 Tonic for Trace Detection 280
150 Spell Energy 300
4 Spell Books Not available
Total 705 Gold + 4 Spell Books

Despite the addition of the highly sought-after Spell Books, neither bundle stands out as a very good value for Gold. These bundles are for players who can spare more money than time, as buying Runestones is cheaper in most cases. Budget-conscious players should skip these bundles unless they want all of the items in either bundle.

New Content

Both parts of this Brilliant will introduce several new Foundables, with six new ones for this first part. Here’s where you can expect to find them:

Fighting Forces Registry

Trace Encounters

These Foundables will appear on the map. Travel around your local area to find them.

Special Assignments

These Foundables can only be found by completing the Special Assignments for the event. Check below for the full list of tasks.

To collect fragments for this Foundable, players will need to successfully complete Wizarding Challenges at Fortresses using a Fighting Forces Runestone.

Completing the Registry

There are four ways to collect Foundables for this event and complete the Registry. To finish the page, players will need to do all four, as each Foundable in the Registry will only be available via one specific method.

  • Trace encounters

  • Special Assignment rewards

  • Fortress rewards

  • Portkey rewards

Both the Brilliant Death Eater and the Brilliant Azkaban Escapee Foundables will be available in special Oddity-style Trace encounters. Two more (Death Eater Mask and Azkaban Prisoner Number) are only available as rewards for completing the Special Assignments.

Fragments of the Fortress-exclusive Foundable, Malfoy Family Crest, will only be available by using Fighting Forces Runestones (available as rewards for ranking up the Fighting Forces Registry) in Wizarding Challenges. Garrick Ollivander will only be found in 3km Portkeys picked up during Part One of the Fighting Forces event.

Note: 7km and 3km Portkeys from previous Brilliant Events are not expected to reward Fighting Forces rewards.

Event Rewards

Of course, this event is more than just an opportunity to complete some Special Assignments and fill in a new Registry page. Players can earn Restricted Section Books, available only during certain events, and stock up on Runestones and Scrolls.

To earn Restricted Section Books, players simply need to complete the Special Assignments during the event. Even just completing some of the tasks will reward players with some of these books, though completing the entire set of tasks will net the largest rewards.

By ranking up the Fighting Forces Registry, players can also earn lots of Scrolls and Runestones. This is especially important as these resources become harder and harder to get outside of events as players finish out the early Registry ranks.

To rank up the Registry, be sure to focus on the event-exclusive Foundables. Traces are the easiest and most reliable source of Family XP, but don’t forget about Fortresses (be sure to use a Fighting Forces Runestone!) and the special 3km Portkeys either.

Many players may find this particular Brilliant Event—especially Part One—to be an ideal time to stock up on scrolls and runestones, as the Trace Encounters are Oddity-style Encounters.

While players have sometimes struggled with previous Brilliant Foundables resisting and resisting and resisting, the Brilliant Death Eater and Brilliant Azkaban Escapee will attack just like an Oddity, meaning they won’t resist or depart.

Foundable Dialogue

Each Foundable added to the Registry will unlock a snippet of Dialogue. To view the Event Dialogue, click to expand the drop-down accordion

Fighting Forces Page 1 Dialogue

Introduction

One thing that the Calamity has never had in abundance is precision. At least, until now. We are seeing an uptick in Foundables related to the specific moment in time when Malfoy Manor served as headquarters for Voldemort.

The Calamity's focus on this delicate part of our history is highly concerning. We'll sort out the details, but the immediate priority is to return these new Foundables as quickly as possible.

Brilliant Death Eater

I remember from my childhood how terrifying Death Eaters were. I have to say, the stories did not do them justice. They are much, much worse.

Brilliant Azkaban Escapee

Azkaban has seen a number of breakouts in its history, but the Calamity has chosen to focus on this one unimportant inmate. He seems to have escaped during one of the Death Eater-led raids at the height of Voldemort's reign... but otherwise, he was historically inconsequential.

Death Eater Mask

Death Eaters wore these masks to hide their identities -- and each one was unique. Yet this specific mask keeps turning up. Why? Why this mask?

Azkaban Prisoner Number

So, I looked at this prisoner number to see if there was some hint as to why it was caught up by the Calamity, and it seems to be tied to the same escapee we keep running across. Why is the Calamity focused on this one inmate?

Malfoy Family Crest

Everyone knows that the Malfoys are one of the twenty-eight pure-blood wizarding families. Seems like the kind of thing the wizarding world should set about forgetting... but this crest is appearing. Is it because they were servants of Voldemort?

Garrick Ollivander

Ollivander was tortured at Malfoy Manor. I cannot imagine another reason why he would appear in this surge other than his incarceration there.

Completion

The Calamity seems like it might be drawing from a specific moment in time. It feels almost... intentional, in a way we've never seen before.

If this is true, it's not a welcome development... and I am left with an uncomfortable array of unanswerable questions.

How to Prepare

While the late release of event details gave players very little time to prepare for this event specifically, here are some last-minute tips to help you prepare anyway:

Save up Portkey space

Unlike previous Brilliant Events, the Special Assignments for Fighting Forces There will likely be at least one task each week which requires players to unlock Portkeys. If you have any, hold off on unlocking them for now. If you don’t have any, you might want to hurry and unlock some Portkeys now so you can be sure to have some 2kms ready for the event.

Stock up ingredients for healing potions and exstimulos

With the 25% reduction in brewing time, this event will be a great chance to stock up on these potions—or use the extra potions to do more Wizarding Challenges! Of course, with faster brewing comes faster ingredient usage, so be sure to manage your ingredient storage carefully to keep on brewing all event long.

Part two’s Special Assignments currently require using 2 Tonic for Trace Detection, 5 Exstimulo Potions, and 5 Potent Exstimulo Potions. It’s possible those tasks will change before Part Two is available, but it won’t hurt to stock up those potions now.

Pace yourself

This Brilliant Event will be a bit shorter than previous ones. Rather than one week, players will have six days exactly to complete each set of the Special Assignments. Tasks typically get harder and more time-consuming with each stage. Most players should still be able to get through all of the Part One tasks without serious grinding.

Update: The dates announced by the HPWU team were wrong. Each part of the event will last one week, as usual!

Conclusion

Now that you’re all ready, the only thing left to do is wait for the event to start! We’ll continue to update this guide as more information (such as the Event Dialogue) is available, so be sure to check back soon!
