Event Overview

Another Brilliant Event was recently announced, and this time, the theme is Back to Hogwarts! Once again, the event will be coming in two parts. As with previous Brilliant events, this is a great chance to earn exclusive Restricted Section Books as well as Gold, scrolls, special event runestones, and more.

The first part is coming in less than 24 hours, on Tuesday, August 13 at 11:00 PDT / 18:00 GMT and runs for exactly one week, until Tuesday, August 20 at 11:00 PT / 18:00 GMT. During part one, players will be able to complete Special Assignments and fill in a new Registry page.

The second part of the event will run for exactly one week as well, from Tuesday, August 27 at 11:00 PDT / 18:00 GMT until Tuesday, September 3 at 11:00 PT / 18:00 GMT. This week will also introduce a new set of Special Assignments as well as a new Registry page.

Read on for full details of the event plus some tips on how to prepare and how to make the most of the rewards available during this event.

Changes from Last Event

For those who have done the previous Brilliant Events, much of this event will follow a similar format, just with a new theme. However, there have been a few changes worth noting:

  • Traces: There are four Foundables in Traces for the first part, up from one and two in previous Brilliant Events, so expect to need to do more Traces this time.
  • Portkeys: Goodbye, 7km Portkeys, and hello, 3km Portkeys! Hopefully this will make it easier on players to complete Portkey tasks and obtain those fragments.
  • Restricted Section Books: There are still 15 of these available this week, but now nine of them are locked behind the final tasks.
  • Family XP: It looks like family XP for ranking up will be capped at 40 instead of 100 XP, which means players will be ranking up and earning rewards a lot faster.

New Content

Both parts of this Brilliant will introduce several new Foundables, with eight new ones for this first part. Here’s where you can expect to find them:

Completing the Registry

There are four ways to collect Foundables for this event and complete the Registry. To finish the page, players will need to do all four, as each Foundable in the Registry will only be available via one specific method.

  • Trace encounters
  • Special Assignment rewards
  • Fortress rewards
  • Portkey rewards

Currently, all four Brilliant Student Foundables will be available in Trace encounters. Two more (Hogwarts Express Conductor and Hogwarts Express) are only available as rewards for completing the Special Assignments.

Fragments of the Fortress-exclusive Foundable, Trolley Witch, will only be available by using Back to Hogwarts Runestones (available as rewards for ranking up the Back to Hogwarts Registry) in Wizarding Challenges. Luggage Trolley will only be found in 3km Portkeys.

Note: 7km Portkeys from previous Brilliant Events are not expected to reward Back to Hogwarts rewards.

Event Rewards

Of course, this event is more than just an opportunity to complete some Special Assignments and fill in a new Registry page. Players can earn Restricted Section Books, available only during certain events, and stock up on Runestones and Scrolls.

To earn Restricted Section Books, players simply need to complete the Special Assignments during the event. Even just completing some of the tasks will reward players with some of these books, though completing the entire set of tasks will net the largest rewards.

By ranking up the Back to Hogwarts Registry, players can also earn lots of Scrolls and Runestones. This is especially important as these resources become harder and harder to get outside of events as players finish out the early Registry ranks.

To rank up the Registry, be sure to focus on the event-exclusive Foundables. Traces are the easiest and most reliable source of Family XP, but don’t forget about Fortresses (be sure to use a Back to Hogwarts Runestone!) and the special 3km Portkeys either.

Foundable Dialogue

Each Foundable added to the Registry will unlock a snippet of Dialogue. To view the Event Dialogue, click to expand the drop-down accordion

Back to Hogwarts Page 1 Dialogue

Introduction

Ah, there you are. An urgent matter requiring the assistance of a skilled Task Force member has arisen, and you came highly recommended by Minister Granger herself.

It seems that the Calamity has absconded with the Hogwarts Express. We didn't know it was capable of taking something so massive -- and the timing couldn't be worse, what with the new term starting.

Obviously, we must get it back before start of term. Please give this matter your utmost attention.

Brilliant Gryffindor Student

I hope that we solve this Calamity soon. I fear I'll spend the whole term keeping first-year Gryffindors -- and Hagrid -- away from Werewolves and fire-breathing chickens.

Hogwarts Express

Students have been traveling to and from school on the Hogwarts Express for over a century. Generations of alumni have shared in this wonderful tradition, and it is as much a part of the Hogwarts experience as the Sorting ceremony.

Hogwarts Express Conductor

Although he only makes the journey to and from Hogwarts a few times a year, I am certain that a train-load of magically-equipped teenagers makes for an eventful trip.

Brilliant Hufflepuff Student

Over seventy-four percent of volunteers who have been tracking, sorting, cataloguing, collating, and archiving each and every returned Foundable for the Ministry -- by quill and parchment -- are current or former members of Hufflepuff house.

Luggage Trolley

I have no doubt that the students will be utterly delighted to know that their spell books and quills have been recovered in time for their first day of classes.

Brilliant Ravenclaw Student

I have received owls from no fewer than three Ravenclaw students requesting lesson plans so that they do not fall behind if classes start without them. Typical of that house. Most students would be excited by the prospect of an extended holiday.

Brilliant Slytherin Student

A very talented Slytherin student informed me that she was transferring to Beauxbatons because she believes that the Calamity has it out for Slytherin house. I couldn't convince her otherwise.

Trolley Witch

I'm glad that she's been returned safely. The Hogwarts Express would not be the same without her -- not to mention her Chocolate Frogs and Every Flavor Beans. I was always partial to the Pumpkin Pasties, myself.

Completion

Well done! The Hogwarts Express is back and ready to depart.

As a result of your commendable efforts, I am pleased to report that our students have not been delayed from returning to Hogwarts, and the new term will start on time.

How to Prepare

While the short announcement of the event gave players very little time to prepare for this event specifically, here are some last-minute tips to help you prepare anyway:

Save up 2km Portkeys

There will likely be at least one task each week which requires players to unlock Portkeys. If you have any, hold off on unlocking them for now. If you don’t have any, you might want to hurry and unlock some Portkeys now so you can be sure to have some 2kms ready for the event.

Brew up some potions

Be sure you have Exstimulo Potions and Dawdle Draughts aplenty to help return all of the exclusive Foundables. Brilliant Event Treasure Trunks are a great source of Scrolls, so you’ll want to return as many as possible to keep ranking up.

Stock up ingredients for 2hr potions

The last brilliant event asked players to brew 7 potions. While there do not appear to be any brewing tasks for part one, the code currently has one for part two. With only a week to complete all of the tasks, you don’t want to get stuck brewing Baruffio’s Brain Elixir.

Healing Potions and basic Exstimulo potions are the fastest options, so be sure to save up ingredients for one or both to get through any brewing tasks quickly during the second week of the event.

Pace yourself

Players will have one week exactly to complete each set of the Special Assignments. Tasks will likely get harder and more time-consuming with each stage. Most players should be able to get through all of the tasks in the week without serious grinding.

Conclusion

Now that you’re all ready, the only thing left to do is wait for the event to start! We’ll continue to update this guide as more information (such as the Event Dialogue) is available, so be sure to check back soon!
