Event Overview

After a week-long break, the Back to Hogwarts Brilliant Event is coming back for Part Two! As with previous Brilliant events, this is a great chance to earn exclusive Restricted Section Books as well as Gold, scrolls, special event runestones, and more.

Part Two is coming in just over 24 hours, on Tuesday, August 27 at 11:00 PDT / 18:00 GMT and runs for exactly one week, until Tuesday, September 3 at 11:00 PT / 18:00 GMT. During Part Two, players will be able to complete Special Assignments and fill in a new Registry page.

Read on for full details of the event plus some tips on how to prepare and how to make the most of the rewards available during this event.

Changes from Last Event

For those who have done the previous Brilliant Events, much of this event will follow a similar format, just with a new theme. However, there have been a few changes worth noting. These apply to both parts of the event:

  • Traces: In addition to this week's Foundable in Traces, Brilliant Sorting Hat, all four of Part One's will be returning, for a total of five Brilliant Foundables in Traces, up from two or three in previous events.
  • Portkeys: In case you missed Part One, we said goodbye to 7km Portkeys, and hello to 3km Portkeys! This change also came with an increase in the number of Portkey-exclusive Fragments needed (from three to five), but adds up to 15km total, rather than 21km, and can be sped up more easily by Silver Keys.
  • Restricted Section Books: There are still 15 of these available this week, but as with Part One, nine of them are now locked behind the final tasks.
  • Family XP: Family XP (FXP) for ranking up is capped 40 instead of 100 FXP, which means players will be ranking up and earning rewards a lot faster.

There is one other big change since Part One, however:

  • Max Fragment Bonus: When returning a Foundable players have already completed in their registry, they receive a "Max Fragment Bonus" of FXP. Last week, this was buffed, so Brilliant Traces are now expected to award 4 FXP (Brilliant Students) and 5 FXP (Brilliant Sorting Hat). With the lower cap for ranking up, this means that players will be able to rank up their registry every ten Foundables or less.

New Content

As with Part One, Part Two of Back to Hogwarts introduces several new Foundables, with six new ones for this first part. Here’s where you can expect to find them:

Completing the Registry

There are four ways to collect Foundables for this event and complete the Registry. To finish the page, players will need to do all four, as each Foundable in the Registry will only be available via one specific method.

  • Trace encounters
  • Special Assignment rewards
  • Fortress rewards
  • Portkey rewards

Currently, the only new Foundable available in Trace encounters will be the Brilliant Sorting Hat. Three more (Brilliant Carriage, Brilliant Winged Boar Statue, and Brilliant Thestral) are only available as rewards for completing the Special Assignments.

Fragments of the Fortress-exclusive Foundable, Brilliant Hogwarts Boat, will only be available by using Back to Hogwarts Runestones (available as rewards for ranking up the Back to Hogwarts Registry) in Wizarding Challenges. Brilliant Hogsmeade Sign will only be found in 3km Portkeys.

After the event ends, players will be able to receive the Fortress-Exclusive Foundables from both Part One and Part Two, Brilliant Trolley Witch and Brilliant Hogwarts Boat, by using the Back to Hogwarts Runestones. It is uncertain at this time whether unlocking a Brilliant Portkey after the event ends will offer a chance at the Part One Portkey-exclusive, Brilliant Luggage Trolley.

Note: 7km Portkeys from previous Brilliant Events are not expected to reward Back to Hogwarts rewards.

Event Rewards

Of course, this event is more than just an opportunity to complete some Special Assignments and fill in a new Registry page. Players can earn Restricted Section Books, available only during certain events, and stock up on Runestones and Scrolls.

To earn Restricted Section Books, players simply need to complete the Special Assignments during the event. Even just completing some of the tasks will reward players with some of these books, though completing the entire set of tasks will net the largest rewards.

By ranking up the Back to Hogwarts Registry, players can also earn lots of Scrolls and Runestones. This is especially important as these resources become harder and harder to get outside of events as players finish out the early Registry ranks.

To rank up the Registry, be sure to focus on the event-exclusive Foundables. Traces are the easiest and most reliable source of Family XP, but don’t forget about Fortresses (be sure to use a Back to Hogwarts Runestone!) and the special 3km Portkeys either.

Foundable Dialogue

Each Foundable added to the Registry will unlock a snippet of Dialogue. To view the Event Dialogue, click to expand the drop-down accordion

Back to Hogwarts Page 2 Dialogue

Just the person I wanted to see.

I'm afraid the Calamity is still causing trouble. Valuable artefacts have been taken from Hogwarts School, including the Sorting Hat. Without that hat, our first-years cannot be sorted into their houses.

Can I count on you provide assistance once again?

Brilliant Sorting Hat

The Sorting Hat has been sorting first-year students into their houses for hundreds of years -- and this was the first time we've ever had to consider what we'd do if it went missing.

Brilliant Thestral

For years after the Battle of Hogwarts, virtually all of our students could see the Thestrals. It was a constant reminder of the cost of that horrible fight. I just hope that the Calamity doesn't eventually condemn another generation of students to the same fate.

I've always been one for tradition, but I must say, I prefer the Hogwarts Carriages over the boats that the first-years ride to the castle.

Winged Boar Statue

Professor Flitwick and I have a long-standing disagreement about whether or not the Winged Boar Statues participated in the Battle of Hogwarts. I didn't enchant them specifically, but I could have sworn I saw one of them dive-bombing a cluster of Death Eaters.

Hogsmeade Sign

Hogsmeade: home of the Three Broomsticks, where students and faculty alike go to enjoy the occasional break from the castle.

Hogwarts Boat

Those boats provide first-year students their first glimpse of the castle as they cross the Black Lake. It is, by all accounts, an impressive sight.

Allow me to express my utmost gratitude for your assistance.

Thanks to your efforts, Hogwarts has suffered no lasting effects from this most recent outburst of the Calamity -- unless you count my students' new favourite excuse, 'the Calamity stole my homework!'

I shall send an owl to Minister Granger informing her of the admirable service you have provided.

How to Prepare

While we wait for the event to start, here are some last-minute tips to help you prepare:

Save up 2km Portkeys

Every Brilliant Event so far has required players to unlock Portkeys to complete the Special Assignments. The fastest way to complete this task is with 2km Portkeys (and silver keys, but frugal players can skip the silver keys and just walk more) and with the Brilliant 3km Portkeys.

If you have some 2km Portkeys, don’t put a key in just yet!

Wait to Pick up new Portkeys

Of course, since players will need five Fragments for the Portkey-exclusive Foundable, Brilliant Hogsmeade Sign, it can also be wise to hold off on picking up new Portkeys until after the event starts. Plus, the first set of Special Assignments asks players to pick up two portkeys or ingredients, so waiting until event start will let you knock that task out right away.

Brew up some potions

The Brilliant Sorting Hat is a High Foundable, so be sure you have some Exstimulo Potions ready to help you collect all 12 Fragments if you’re struggling with it or just have limited time or spawns. Even if not, Brilliant Event Treasure Trunks are a great source of Scrolls and Runestones, so you’ll want to return as many of the Brilliant Foundables as possible to keep ranking up.

Stock up ingredients for 2hr potions

The Special Assignments for this event asks players to brew nine potions in total. With only a week to complete all of the tasks, you don’t want to get stuck brewing Baruffio’s Brain Elixir. Healing Potions and basic Exstimulo potions are the fastest options, so be sure to save up ingredients for one or both to get through the brewing task quickly.

Of course if you have gold to spare, you can always buy ingredients, rent the second cauldron, or even pay gold to complete your potions. Be sure to check out our Premium Brewing Guide for more tips on how to make the most of your gold when brewing!

Pace yourself

Players will have one week exactly to complete each set of the Special Assignments. Tasks typically get harder and more time-consuming with each stage. Most players should be able to get through all of the tasks in the week without serious grinding, but be sure to look ahead and plan your time if you’re limited on play time for the week.
