Event Overview

The first-ever Wizards Unite Community Day is fast approaching! Ready your wands, and read on for details about the event as well as tips on how to prepare and make the most of it.

For those who don’t know, Community Day is a 3-hour event, most likely occurring once a month on a Saturday or Sunday. There are three separate times for the event, depending on region. Wherever you are, Community Day will be Saturday, July 20 at:

Asia Pacific: 1:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. AEST (UTC +10)
Europe, Middle East, Africa, and India: 10:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. UTC
The Americas and Greenland: 11:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. PDT (UTC -7)

During those three hours, players benefit from a handful of in-game bonuses. For July, the bonuses are:

  • 3x XP when using Baruffio’s Brain Elixir
  • Increased number of Traces on the map
  • Increase of Hogwarts School Traces
  • Dark Detectors last 1 hour

Players will also be able to claim a Free Store Pack during the Community Day hours, featuring:

  • 50 Spell Energy
  • 1 Baruffio’s Brain Elixir
  • 5 Potter's Calamity Runestones
free Community Day bundle

Preparing for Community Day

While players have noted that the bonuses for this Community Day are relatively minimal, players can still make the most of the event anyway. Here are some key tips to help you prepare:

Stock up potions

Make the most of your cauldron and potion storage! While player level is not hugely important in the game, the small decrease in Trace difficulty every five levels adds up, so take advantage of that 3x XP! Players will want to bring 5-6 Baruffio’s Brain Elixir to be able to keep them running throughout the event.

Exstimulos will also go a long way on Community Day. With any luck, you’ll find yourself in an area with Dark Detectors bringing in rarer, high level Traces. Stock up as many Exstimulos as you can manage—including Potent and Strong if you can! We’d recommend at least 10 Exstimulos.

Finally, if you’ll be playing in an area with lots of other players, consider bringing some Healing Potions for Fortress battles!

Portkeys

While none of the bonuses are specifically for Portkeys, Community Day is a great time to get in a lot of walking. With the 3x XP from Baruffio’s Brain Elixir, be sure to save up any unlocked Portkeys for Community Day. Even if you only have one or two, be sure to open them before Community Day ends to take advantage of the 3x XP!

Premium items

Gold burning a hole in your pocket? While they certainly aren’t a must, your best investment for Community Day will probably be Dark Detectors. Just be sure you have enough Spell Energy to keep up with the extra Traces, or else you’ll need to buy some of that too.

Where to Play

Of course, where you play can make a big difference in how much you can get out of the event. Look for areas with high Inn and Trace density to make the most of the increased Traces without running out of energy. Parks, downtown areas, sponsored malls, museums, and more can all be good places to check out.

Since the event is three hours, make sure there’s somewhere in the area you can rest if you need to take a break. Ideally, that will be somewhere with Inns and Traces, but anywhere you can catch your breath and get some water and snacks (and re-apply sunscreen!) is good.

Be sure to check your local weather forecast as well. If the weather is unpleasant—too hot, too rainy, too humid—you might want to look for somewhere indoors to keep you and your phone safe from the elements.

Other things to bring

Depending on where you’re playing and what the weather is like, you might also want to bring water, snacks, sunscreen, or an umbrella. If you want to play the full three hours, a charged up battery pack (and charging cable for your phone) is also a must.

Finding a community

It’s not called Community Day for nothing! This is a great chance to try to find local players in your area or take a day trip somewhere else to meet new players and connect with the Wizards Unite community.

While the community is still new, many local groups have already started to form. The easiest way to look for a community near you is to simply search “wizards unite [your location]” into Google, Facebook, or other social media sites. You can also try searching for Pokémon GO communities, as many of them have started Wizards Unite groups. A few sites have also started maps of communities, which might help you find a group near you, such as Wizard Unite World’s Discord map, and Wizards GO App’s local community database.

Completing the Hogwarts School Registry

Unfortunately, the Wizards Unite team have not promised any bonus Family XP this time, unlike the SOS Emergency Event, so don’t expect to fly through the ranks on the Hogwarts School Registry. That said, the overall increase of Hogwarts School Foundables should still provide a good opportunity to work toward completing and prestiging pages and earning more Scrolls and Runestones.

Players hoping to prestige some Hogwarts School pages on Community Day should keep in mind that not all Hogwarts School Foundables will appear on the map. Why? Because, simply put, not all Foundables appear in Trace Encounters at all. Some are only available in Portkeys or Fortresses.

The good news is that all Foundables on the DADA Classroom Registry page can be found in Trace Encounters, so this will be a good page to focus on. Boggart Cabinets are typically the rarest on this page, so players might want to spare some potions for any that appear to ensure they can prestige as soon as possible.

The second page, Moving Staircases, only has one Foundable not currently found in Trace Encounters, the Hogwarts House Cup. Those eager to prestige it on Community Day could prepare for Community Day by using Hogwarts School Foundables in Fortress in the hopes of collecting all 15 Fragments before then.

However, Moving Staircases also requires collecting 15 Fragments of Professor McGonagall, so unless you’re close to completing McGonagall, it’s probably not worth rushing to complete the House Cup anyway.

The final page, Great Hall, is made up of much rarer Foundables and ones found only in Fortresses and Portkeys. On Community Day, just focus on ranking up the Registry with the boosted Hogwarts School Trace Encounters. All of those rank ups will earn Runestones which can be used after Community Day to fill in those blanks.
