Event Overview

December’s Brilliant Event is here! The first week of Christmas Calamity starts today and invites players to the Yule Ball. Coming hot on the heels of the Legends of Hogwarts event and the December 2019 Community Day, this Brilliant Event looks to be a great way to play this holiday season.

Part One
  • Starts: Tues. December 3, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. Pacific Time / 19:00 UTC
  • Ends: Tues. December 10, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. Pacific Time / 19:00 UTC
  • Features: New Special Assignments and Bonus Assignments, Foundables, Registry Page, and store bundles.

As a quick note, the Brilliant Portkeys for this week will all be 3 km. Week 1 Portkeys will still give you week 1 rewards even if you don’t open them until week 2.

Event Gift and Bundles

There are three bundles available for week 1: one free bundles, and two that can be bought in Diagon Alley. Both paid bundles can only be bought once.

The contents of these gifts have been derived from the game files and are subject to change. In particular, both paid bundles are identical right now, so one or both of these is likely to change.

Free Gift
  • 2 Potent Exstimulo Potions
  • 25 Spell Energy
Event Bundle 1

This bundle costs 325 gold and contains:

Item Non-Bundle Cost
1 Silver Key 90
2 Potent Exstimulo Potions 150
2 Tonics for Trace Detection 120
50 Spell Energy 100
Total 460

This bundle is a really solid option and offers a lot of helpful items at enough of a discount that it’s worth considering. The silver key is especially nice if you need to clear up some space in your Portkey inventory to make room for Brilliant Portkeys. The potions are always a good thing to pick up, especially with two of the event Foundables being trace encounters.

Event Bundle 2

This bundle costs 725 gold and contains:

Item Non-Bundle Cost
2 Silver Keys 180
5 Potent Exstimulo Potions 375
5 Tonics for Trace Detection 280
100 Spell Energy 200
Total 1035

Just like the first bundle, this one is good, giving you lots of extremely helpful resources that’ll help you make quick work of this event. At a cost of 725 coins, it’s a little steep so you might not get the most out of it unless you play regularly.

Bonus Assignment Bundle

This bundle costs 1900 gold and contains:

Item Non-Bundle Cost
2 Silver Keys 180
5 Dark Detectors 600
15 Tonics for Trace Detection 840
150 Spell Energy 300
Total 1920

This bundle is a bit of a disappointment. The resources it offers aren’t great and at only a 20 coin discount from buying everything individually, it’s just not really worth it. The keys and Spell Energy are the big gets here, but you can get them at a better deal in either of the previous two bundles. For a bonus bundle, it really doesn’t feel like a bonus.

Story Dialogue

As you go through the event and place images, characters will pop up to share bits of the Wizards Unite storyline with you. In case you tap the dialogue away too fast (or just want a sneak peak now), here is the dialogue. Just click to expand and reveal all of the dialogue.

Note: Not all story text is available yet. For now, you can just get a sneak peak of the opening part of the story, but we'll update the rest after the event starts. Check back soon for that update!

Warning: Spoilers ahead!

Christmas Calamity Week 1 Dialogue

Introduction

Christmas is upon us, and the Calamity seems to be responding with memories from Christmases past. I've seen reports of Foundables from the Yule Ball we had at Hogwarts, Ron. For once, it seems, the Calamity isn't serving us something life or death.

Says you, mate. Remember my dress robes? This is a disaster!

Don't worry, Ron. Everything the Calamity draws out into the world is a priority. Even those truly horrid robes your mum made you wear.

I know this can't be official, but could you please prioritize everything related to the Yule Ball? That dance was not my finest hour.

Conclusion

I thought the Calamity dredging up Yule Ball memories would be a disaster, but it hasn't been nearly as bad as I'd feared.

Now that it's over, I think this will be a happy Christmas, after all.

Bonus Assignment Finish

You've completed Part One of this Brilliant Event. Well done! Keep an eye out for Part Two, coming soon.

How to Prepare

The details for this event were released pretty late, so there wasn’t a whole lot of time to prepare before it began. Regardless, here’s some tips on how best to get ready.

Get Some Potions Ready

Part two of the event tasks requires you to brew 4 potions. If you want to get this taken care of quickly, then base Exstimulo Potions are the way to go because they take the least time to brew. Potent Exstimulos and Tonics for Trace Detection are more effective long term, and Master Notes can be used to get the brew time down to something more manageable.

If you already have potions brewing, don’t collect them quite yet. Once the task is available to you, then collect them and they’ll count towards the four you need.

Clear Some Space for Portkeys

Clearing your Portkey inventory is something that usually benefits from more prep time, but in this case you can use the time you’ll spend tracking down the Brilliant Traces to help free up some space. If you have the gold, the Silver Keys in the event bundles are helpful in opening non-Brilliant Portkeys so you can be working on Brilliant ones while you’re hunting the Trace encounters.

If it’s late in the event, it’s worth it to hold on to them until week 2 because they’ll still provide week 1 rewards as well as prevent you from getting overfilled on non-event Portkeys.

Expedite Your Exstimulos

Exstimulo Potions are the most helpful potions, especially if you’re limited on time and/or Spell Energy. For players in rural areas, Exstimulo Potions are also extremely helpful to ensure that you don’t lose out on what few spawns that pop up.

Conclusion

There you have it! That’s everything we know about the first week of the Christmas Calamity Brilliant Event. Be sure to check back in later as we update this guide with the confirmed event tasks and rewards, event dialogue, and more!
