PVE Offensive Moves Explanation

  • Spark is superior to Volt Switch for the weave DPS and energy gain. Volt Switch’s huge cast time make it difficult to dodge.

  • Tackle, Electrode’s legacy charge move, lacks STAB or any type advantage.

  • Thunderbolt is slightly superior to Discharge for damage output, but both are reasonable.

  • Hyper Beam and Foul Play have no uses on Electrode. Use your TMs here.

PVE Defensive Moves Explanation

  • Volt Switch is clearly superior on defense, doing more than double the damage that Spark and Tackle do.

  • Thunderbolt is Electrode’s best move, splitting the difference between charge time and damage.

  • Discharge is also great, since Electrode is frail. It sometimes does more damage than Thunderbolt.

  • Foul Play doesn't really provide meaningful coverage for Electrode, and also lacks STAB.

  • Hyper Beam is too slow and easy to dodge.

PVE Overview

Electrode’s main series asset, a blistering base Speed, only has a minor impact on its otherwise bad stats in Pokemon GO. Don’t let that smile deceive you; this Pokemon performs terribly in most matchups. Against Water or Flying-type raids, or Gyarados, chances are you have one of the many Pokemon that outperform Electrode.

PvP Moveset Explanation

Volt Switch + Foul Play and Discharge or Thunderbolt

Volt Switch has been buffed to 3.5 DPT (Damage per Turn) and 4 EPT (Energy Per Turn). Discharge (65 Power/45 Energy) charges quickly thanks to it, and allows Electrode to throw out fair amounts of damage quickly. Thunderbolt (90 Power/55 Energy) is a bit slower, but provides higher damage-per-energy by comparison, and is a better general choice when shields are down.

Foul Play is Electrode's best coverage move, and can have some use depending on the format.

PvP Rating Explanation

Great League: 2 / 5

Electrode has found a better niche with Volt Switch, coupled with Foul Play as unique coverage for an Electric-type. It's not the best of them by any means, but it can work in restricted formats such as Silph Cups.

Ultra League: 0 / 5

2099 CP is not enough to compete here.

Master League: 0 / 5

You'd probably be better off using something that the opponent's Pokemon directly counters than a Super Effective damaging Electrode in the Master League.
