**UPDATED 1/4/21** Explorers! our first Weekly Event feature of 2021 is all about the need for natural speed! This is going to be another fun week to collect DNA of your favorite speedsters. Ludia has also adjusted the schedule to allow for the Antarctovenator which was missing this past Sunday. Each set provides some great options, so let's go over what we recommend to dart as well as everything else you need to know!
Weekly Calendar Explained
Before we dive in to the week, we'll break down how the weekly event calendar works. First, each day is considered started at 10am Eastern on that day. It is possible that wherever you live, it might actually be the previous or next day, so we wanted to help clarify how they determine what day it is. At this time, event creatures & strike towers will be updated as applicable. This information is also noted on the calendar.
Ever wonder why some weeks we’re given 45 attempts on commons and others only 18 or 27? The reason for this is that the volume of attempts is a simple math calculation based on the rarity and number of options. Take the rarity base number and multiply by the number of options and voila, you have your total allowed attempts! Having more variety in the options yields that many more attempts. The flip side is it may be more difficult to find the creature(s) you favor. Below details the number of attempts assigned to each rarity which is used to determine how many attempts you receive (though occasionally, they stray from this math). This is the total you are allotted across all options, so it is important to select your choices wisely.
- Common = 9 per
- Rate = 6 per
- Epic = 3 per
- Legendary/Unique = 1 per
All strikes are represented on the calendar with the level of difficulty along with how long they last (1 day or 2 days). The calendar does not show trials, but those do not tend to vary week by week.
Featured Creatures: Commons
Monday - Tuesday: 36 Attempts
- Deinocheirus (Global Anytime)
- Deinonychus (Global Anytime)
- Tanycolagreus (Global Anytime)
- Velociraptor (Global Anytime)
This is a week where none of the commons truly stand out to us. All four are available everywhere, all the time, so you should have little problem acquiring by hunting and/or scenting. If we were to extend even the smallest of preference, it would be Deinonychus ("Nike"), as it has been available for the least amount of time. However, we will have Nike as hybrid pursuit and should be more than plenty for all the taking around. Your personal goals my have you targeting something else, and we completely support that!
Featured Creatures: Rares
Wednesday - Thursday: 18 Attempts
- Delta (Local 3 Day/Dawn/Dusk)
- Haast Eagle Gen 2 (Wednesday)
- Ornithomimus (Battle Exclusive)
Important Update/Note - due to the addition of the Unique Antarctovenator attempt on Sunday, we will now only have TWO DAYS to dart the Rares. Be sure to get your attempts done by Friday's reset, so you don't miss out!
Using our rule of exclusivity, our top recommendation for the week would be Ornith followed by Eagle2 then Delta. When taking hybrids in to consideration, we would bump Delta to the top, as both Velosrhacos & Alloraptor are great assets in qualifying tournaments. It's going to take a slew of Delta DNA if you have a desire to work on both these beasts. Eagle2 has been around for the least amount of time, and maybe you find yourself comfortably stockpiled with the others. It's again hard to say you'd go wrong choosing any of these so maybe an ideal approach is to spread out your attempts and not focus on just one.
Featured Creatures: Epics
Friday - Saturday: 9 Attempts
- Blue (Event Exclusive)
- Darwinopterus (Global Anytime)
- Haast Eagle (Event Exclusive)
This will make for an incredibly tough decision as 2 out of 3 options are Event Exclusive. It probably goes unsaid, but we will not be giving Darwin our top recommendation of this group. We do understand it does feed multiple hybrids, and you will need a lot to work on both, but you can also find it everywhere, all the time. Spend some time hunting and/or running a giga scent, you're almost sure to draw some Darwin.
The same can not be said for the other two. Our time with Haast Eagle as hybrid pursuit will be to an end. I'll repeat my spiel on Eagle from last week: We also know Haast Eagle is responsible for the underwhelming Poukaidei which is responsible for the also underwhelming Poukandactylus. Just like with Antarctovenator, however, future modifications could happen. Creatures like Monolorhino have gone from dud to super stud, and who's to say Poukan can't receive the same treatment one day? If Ludia really is listening and plans to take action based on Piere87's recent Open Letter, we wouldn't be surprised for a nice upgrade.
But what about Blue? Not long ago, we'd have been screaming at you to choose Blue the same we did recently about choosing Rhino. Indo2 once ruled the realm, but that has not been the case for a couple updates. We would still give Blue a slight edge due to her potential as an individual in tournament. Like the rares, we don't feel you can go totally wrong with either Event Exclusive choice.
Featured Creature: Unique
Sunday: 1 Attempt
Due to the oversight in including Antarctovenator as a choice this past Sunday, Ludia made the following announcement on Monday:
"Over the weekend our team had received reports regarding the missing Antarctovenator ESD Event from the game. To compensate you for this issue, we have adjusted this week’s Event calendar to let you have another shot at the Antarctovenator Event."
We don't have to tell you to get out there and get your one attempt!! It's nice to see Ludia compensating for the mistake.
Strike Events, Trials, Scents, Treasure Chase, and Hybrid Pursuit!
Strike Events & Trials
Strike Events and Trials are also Fast Themed, so you can expect to get the same DNA as the Featured Creatures from them. Please note that sometimes they throw a curveball and the Trials end up different. I will revisit and update the article as appropriate. Here is a recap:
- Haast Eagle Gen 2
- Haast Eagle
On Friday, we have another Epic Strike featuring Indomunus Rex Gen 2.
Over the Weekend, we'll also get an Epic Trial. On Sunday we have an Epic Fast Strike. Finally, we've got the regularly scheduled Boost Strikes on Tuesday (Attack), Thursday (HP), and Saturday (Speed). The Thanksgiving & Christmas weeks granted us a special emote in the trials, so it's very possible we'll receive something similar this week.
The Themed Scent of this week appears to be Amphibian Scent. This scent can draw any of the following creatures:
- Dimetrodon Gen 2
- Diplocaulus Gen 2
- Koolasuchus Gen 2
The treasure chase continues on Saturday & (hopefully) Sunday. You get once chance each for between 500 and 2,500 coins with distance not mattering. There has also been a chance at a Smilodon emote the past couple weeks. It has been confirmed that their intent is only for one pop per day. We can only hope they have plans to eventually change this to the original treasure chase where they refreshed throughout the day and offered much more opportunity at free coins. We also need to hope they will increase the treasure distribution as much of the community never saw any over both days this past weekend.
This Week concludes the Poukaidei pursuit, so keep your eyes out for common Deinonychus!
