Group Attack

August 09 - August 15

Weekly Calendar Explained

Before we dive in to the week, we'll break down how the weekly event calendar works.

First, each day is considered started at 10am (EST) on that day. It is possible that wherever you live, it might actually be the previous or next day, so we wanted to help clarify how they determine what day it is. At this time, event creatures & strike towers will be updated as applicable. This information is also noted on the calendar.

Ever wonder why some weeks we’re given 45 attempts on Common’s and others only 18 or 27? The reason for this is that the volume of attempts is a simple math calculation based on the rarity and number of options. Take the rarity base number and multiply by the number of options and voila, you have your total allowed attempts! Having more variety in the options yields that many more attempts. The flip side is it may be more difficult to find the creature(s) you favour. Below details the number of attempts assigned to each rarity which is used to determine how many attempts you receive (though occasionally, they stray from this math). This is the total you are allotted across all options, so it is important to select your choices wisely.

  • Common = 9 per
  • Rare = 6 per
  • Epic = 3 per
  • Legendary/Unique = Varies but tends to usually be 2 total
  • Omega = 3 per

They recently started putting the number of attempts on the calendar again and sometimes stray from the above. Refer to the calendar for the confirmed counts. Each rarity has a different length of time the spawn lasts followed by a different length of time until respawn after de-spawn. Common’s and Rare’s will last about 35 minutes with about 5 minutes between. Epic’s last about 30 minutes with about 5 minutes in between. Legendary’s & Unique’s last about 27 minutes with about 3 minutes in between. Many thanks to Lilikoi of Dom Tuoretto for helping us nail down those cycle times! Omega’s, approximately last about 24 minutes with about 3 minutes in between.

All strikes and trials are represented on the calendar with the level of difficulty along with how long they last (1 day or 2 days). The trials are shown along the very bottom in grey boxes.

Wednesday - Thursday: 36 attempts

  • Apatosaurus (Global Day/Dawn/Dusk) (Nodopatosaurus>Gigaspikasaur/Nodopatotitan/Stegodeus>Geminideus)
  • Archaeotherium (Monday) (Inostherium, Keratoporcus)
  • Ophiacodon (Wednesday) (Ankylocodon>Ankylodicurus>Ankylodactylus)
  • Parasaurolophus (Local 4 Day/Dawn/Dusk) (Paramoloch,Tragoditis)

Starting off this week, we have 4 choices to dart for the Common rarity (although interestingly enough, Ophiacodon is part of this week despite not having a group attack).

Apatosaurus is a slow Resilient creature boasting a high health stat and is a solid pick for Common Only tournaments, however, with Omegas on the rise, it’s quickly lost its place. This creature has an Epic hybrid in Nodopatosaurus, which feeds into three Legendary super hybrids: Nodopatotitan, Gigaspikasaur, and Stegodeus. Despite receiving buffs a while back, Gigaspika and Nodotitan struggle in the Fierce-dominated Legendary tournaments. Stegodeus is the worst of the three, but it feeds into the Apex mega hybrid Geminideus, easily the strongest creature in the game.

Let’s make this quick, Archaeotherium is bad, like really bad. This creature is not worth using whatsoever in Common Only tournaments, and it clearly has no place when Omegas are involved. Its hybrids are unfortunately in a similar position. Inostherium and Keratoporcus are not worth picking over most of the other Rare and Legendary options, respectively.

Ophiacodon is a decent Fierce pick for Common Only tournaments, but like the others, falls flat when Omegas are in the picture. Its hybrid, Ankylocodon, is still pretty solid and has some good resistances that allow it to tank hits from the Resilient creatures in its rarity. Ankylocodon’s super hybrid and mega hybrid, Ankylodicurus and Ankylodactylus, are decent picks for their respective rarities.

Parasaurolophus is in a similar situation to Archaeotherium in that it has no real place in its rarity. Its super hybrid, Tragodistis, also suffers a similar fate. On the other hand, Tragodistis' mega hybrid, Atrocodistis, is considered a top-tier Unique and performs well in the arena and in tournaments.

All of these creatures spawn on the map, so there’s no absolute pick, however, with only 2 days and 36 attempts, it’s probably worth just darting whatever you see first.

Recommendation: Apatosaurus > Parasaurolophus > Ophiacodon > Archaeotherium

Featured Creatures: Epics

Friday - Saturday: 12 attempts

  • Panthera (Global Short Range Anytime) (Constrictoraptor)
  • Red (Event Exclusive) (Atrocodistis)
  • Tyrannosaurus Rex (Global Anytime) (Indominus Rex>Erlidominus/Indonemys/Indoraptor, Trykosaurus)
  • Woolly Mammoth (Local 2 Anytime) (Entelemoth>Entelolania, Mammotherium>Mammolania, Tsintamoth)

We’ve now arrived at the selection of Epic creatures for this week, with 4 total picks.

First up is Panthera, the clear strongest member of the Atrociraptor squad. With its two priority revenge decimation attacks, it’s the strongest revenge killer in its rarity. Panthera’s hybrid, Constrictoraptor, is essentially just Panthera, but stronger, with mostly higher stats across the board and some more defensive options.

The sole event exclusive creature of this group, Red, is a somewhat okay option for tournaments but is heavily outclassed by its sister, Panthera. Red’s true purpose is to feed into its mega hybrid, Atrocodistis, one of the top Unique creatures in the game.

The king of the tyrant lizards, Tyrannosaurus Rex, recently received a buff that actually makes it a solid pick for Advantage tournaments. Its Unique hybrid, Trykosaurus, has really fallen off in the past couple years. Rex’s Legendary hybrid, Indominus Rex, is a solid option in Hybrid Only tournaments. Indom feeds into three hybrids: Erlidominus, Indoraptor, and Indonemys. Erlidominus is a solid pick in the arena with a high turn 1 damage with Ferocious Cunning Impact, but is quite vulnerable to flocks and Resilient shielders. Indoraptor, like Trykosaurus, has seen better days. Indonemys is the clear best pick, with its Cloak plus Devour Heal combo allowing it to sustain itself quite well.

Woolly Mammoth is pretty bad in Epic tournaments. None of its hybrids are that good either. Entelomoth and Mammotherium have Unique hybrids, in the form of Entelolania and Mammolania. Despite both receiving buffs, neither can really compete with the meta creatures, however, Entelolania is the better option for sure.

Red is the only event exclusive creature in this list, so as usual, this is the recommended pick, however, cases can be made for Panthera and Tyrannosaurus Rex if you’re focused on tournaments.

Recommendation:

Arena: Red (Atrocodistis) > Panthera (Constrictoraptor) = Tyrannosaurus Rex (Indonemys) > Woolly Mammoth

Tournament: Panthera > Tyrannosaurus Rex > Red > Woolly Mammoth

Featured Creatures: Legendries

Sunday: 3 attempts

  • Ankylomoloch (Event Exclusive) (Ankylos Lux)
  • Rinchicyon (Event Exclusive)
  • Thylaconyx (Event Exclusive) (Aenocyonyx>Indolycan)
  • Tragodistis (Event Exclusive)

Sunday gives us the option to dart some Legendary creatures!

Starting off, Ankylomoloch is a solid Resilient flock killer, with armor and shields to boost its defenses and vulnerability to boost its damage. Unfortunately for it, its opponents are Rexy, Thylaconyx, and Spinoceratops, all Fierce creatures that really mess up Ankylomoloch’s day. Its hybrid, Ankylos Lux, was once one of the best creatures in the game, but has since fallen from that position. However, it still functions as a solid off-meta choice in the arena.

Thylaconyx is part of what’s considered the Big 4 of the Legendary rarity, and it's quite easy to see why. With a high health stat, great resistances, a solid buffing option in Crushing Prowl, and offensive options like Devouring Wound and Skirmish, this creature can sustain itself quite well. This legendary feeds into the Unique wolf, Aenocyonyx, one of the top creatures in the game that feeds into another top creature in the form of the Apex wolf, Indolycan.

The Asian continental Epic creature, Rinchenia, creates the Legendary hybrid, Rinchicyon. Rinchicyon is a pretty good creature with some solid moves. However, like Ankylomoloch, while it’s good at what it does, it suffers the curse of being in the same rarity as the Big 4 Legendaries.

Tragodistis also really can’t compete in its rarity anymore, and pretty much only exists now to fuse into Atrocodistis.

Thylaconyx is the clear choice here, as it not only works great in its own rarity in tournaments, but fuses into two of the strongest creatures in the game. Rinchicyon is probably the next best choice due to the exclusivity of Rinchenia.

Recommendation: Thylaconyx > Rinchicyon > Ankylomoloch > Tragodistis

Featured Creatures: Rares

 Monday: 24 attempts

  • Amargasaurus (Local 1 Dawn/Dusk/Night) (Amargocephalus>Tragoditis, Gigaspikasaur)
  • Ankylocodon (Global Night/Dawn/Dusk) (Ankylodicurus>Ankylodactylus)
  • Argentavis (Event Exclusive) (Argenteryx, Lystrosavis)
  • Haast Eagle Gen 2 (Wednesday) (Aquilamimus)

This is quite odd, 24 attempts for Rare creatures, yet we only get 1 day to do so? That doesn’t seem right. Regardless, let’s take a look at our choices.

Amargasaurus is pretty bad and is completely overshadowed by its cousin, Dreadnoughtus. Its hybrids aren’t much better off. Amargocephalus is quite bad. Gigaspika and Amargasaurus' hybrid, Tragodistis, struggle in Legendary tournaments due to the powerful Fierce creatures running around. However, once again, Atrocodistis makes its presence known as one of the strongest creatures in the game.

As stated before with Ophiacodon, Ankylocodon and its hybrids are all solid picks for their rarities.

The sole event exclusive in this list, Argentavis, is an okay choice for Rare tournaments, but where it really shines is its two hybrids: Argenteryx and Lystrosavis. Argenteryx is still one of the best creatures in its rarity and while Lystrosavis isn’t considered meta, it’s still a strong pick that can catch someone off guard in the arena.

Alright, our last option, Haast Eagle Gen 2… do we even need to talk about this one? It’s bad and its hybrid’s terrible. Ignore this one.

While we usually recommend that you pick the event exclusive option, you don’t have a lot of time to dart 24 of one Rare in a single day. If you can get Argentavis, that’s great, if not, that’s okay, just dart whatever you see.

Recommendation: Argentavis > Ankylocodon > Amargasaurus > Haast Eagle Gen 2

Featured Creatures: Omegas

Tuesday: 6 attempts

  • Clever Girl (Event Exclusive)
  • Stegouras (Global Short Range Anytime, Limit 6/wk combined with Diabloceratops)
  • Yuxisaurus (Local 1 Anytime, Limit 20/wk)

Now we move onto probably the most interesting rarity, the Omegas. These creatures are allowed in every tournament type as they essentially don’t count as a rarity. As a result, they’re very versatile and a bit harder to judge on usefulness.

Starting off, Clever Girl, as of this week, is back to being an event exclusive creature after having been dartable on the map as a wild spawn. Clever Girl dominates Common tournaments and does quite well in Rare tournaments. Epic tournaments are a bit harder for this creature as its low stun resistances leave it vulnerable to stunners like Megalotops and Pulmonoscorpius. It becomes much stronger in Legendary and Unique tournaments as it gains access to some very broken moves.

Stegouros, like Clever Girl, also dominates Common tournaments and does quite well in Rare tournaments. However, unlike Clever Girl, Stegouros struggles in the higher rarities as it doesn’t get access to particularly good moves until pretty late.

Yuxisaurus seems to be a solid option in pretty much every tournament format, having access to some really good moves, making up for its pretty poor resistances.

We would recommend Clever Girl as it is now back to being event exclusive.

Recommendation: Clever Girl > Yuxisaurus > Stegouros

Parting Words

When choosing what to dart, it can depend on your player level. So, think about the creatures’ hybrids, working out which hybrid or future hybrids would be a best fit for your team or to help you achieve any goals you may have; how far these hybrids are away from being created for yourself and finally, by looking at ‘Creature Tier Lists’, for example the ‘Popularity’ and ‘Community Rankings’ tier lists.

We would really love to hear about what you plan to dart and why, along with any other opinions that you can share in conversation by joining the ‘GamePress JWA’ Discord Server. Get in the discussion today!!

With that, from Kelociraptor, Lucus1355, special guest Shyamallama and of course, the GamePress JWA Discord, thank you for reading!!!
