JWA Weekly Events Jul 20 to Jul 26: Camp Cretaceous

Submit Feedback or Error

Introduction

Explorers! Camp Cretaceous Season 5 premiers on July 21, and we're headed in to week all about some of our favorites from the show. Let's get to it and talk about our recommendations of what to dart before we break down the rest this week has to offer!

Weekly Calendar Explained

Before we dive in to the week, we'll break down how the weekly event calendar works. First, each day is considered started at 10am Eastern on that day. It is possible that wherever you live, it might actually be the previous or next day, so we wanted to help clarify how they determine what day it is. At this time, event creatures & strike towers will be updated as applicable. This information is also noted on the calendar.

Ever wonder why some weeks we’re given 45 attempts on commons and others only 18 or 27? The reason for this is that the volume of attempts is a simple math calculation based on the rarity and number of options. Take the rarity base number and multiply by the number of options and voila, you have your total allowed attempts! Having more variety in the options yields that many more attempts. The flip side is it may be more difficult to find the creature(s) you favor. Below details the number of attempts assigned to each rarity which is used to determine how many attempts you receive (though occasionally, they stray from this math). This is the total you are allotted across all options, so it is important to select your choices wisely.

  • Common = 9 per
  • Rare = 6 per
  • Epic = 3 per
  • Legendary/Unique = 1 total

They recently started putting the number of attempts on the calendar again and sometimes stray from the above. Refer to the calendar for the confirmed counts. Each rarity has a different length of time the spawn lasts followed by a different length of time until respawn after despawn. Commons and Rares will last 1 hour with about 5 minutes between. Epics last 2 hours with about 5 minutes in between.

All strikes and trials are represented on the calendar with the level of difficulty along with how long they last (1 day or 2 days). The trials are shown along the very bottom in gray boxes.

Featured Creatures: Commons

 Wednesday - Thursday: 36 attempts

  • Dilophosaurus Gen 2 (Global Anytime) (Dilophoboa>Spinoconstrictor, Tyrannolophosaur>Tenontorex)
  • Monolophosaurus Gen 2 (Local 4 Anytime) (Monolometrodon>Monolorhino, Scorpius Rex Gen 2>Scorpius Rex Gen 3)
  • Stegosaurus (Saturday) (Stegoceratops>Monostegotops, Stegodeus)
  • Velociraptor (Global Anytime) (Indominus Rex>Erlidominus/Indoraptor, Indoraptor)

Overall

The long and short of these two days (which is really going to be the same for almost all groups of Commons) is 36 is a lot of attempts, it's really tough to get excited about any commons, and we don't find any of these worth spending extra time to specifically seek out. You're best off saving your hunting prowess and energy for the other rarities and sticking with whatever might cross your path. Putting them in an order of Exclusivity (and accounting a little bit for hybrids), they would go Stego, Mono2, Diloph2/Velo. Another idea is to take advantage of the Velo attempts toward the Velo achievement.

Voting Poll

As of Wednesday morning, almost everyone who voted in our Discord poll will be darting whatever crosses their path.

Featured Creatures: Epics

Friday - Saturday: 12 Attempts

  • Bumpy (Event Exclusive) (Ankylomoloch>Ankylos Lux)
  • Compsognathus (Local 1 Anytime) (Compsocaulus)
  • Kentrosaurus (Park Anytime) (Ankytrosaurus>Trykosaurus)
  • Scorpius Rex Gen 2 (Event Exclusive) (Scorpius Rex Gen 3)

Overall

This pool of Epics gives us a little more to feel excited about with a couple Event Exclusives and one which can only be found in parks. We like Bumpy as the best option here for both of its hybrids, though they keep restricting Ankylomoloch from Legendary tournaments. SR2 would be a fine second choice, as it's nice to save the coins and DNA from fusing. Its hybrid is still spazzing havoc all over the arena as well. If you have trouble accessing parks, we can see a small case for Kentro. Tryk did receive a slight rework in update 2.17, though we don't know if it's enough to prioritize this one for your arena team. We can't really find a reason to suggest Compy over any of your other choices this week. This doesn't make it a bad choice if it's yours, it just doesn't stand out above the others in our eyes.

Featured Creatures: Legendaries

Sunday: 1 attempt

  • Ankylomoloch (Event Exclusive) (Ankylos Lux)
  • Parasaurolophus Lux (Global Short Range) (Parasauthops)
  • Rexy (Event Exclusive)
  • Scorpius Rex (Event Exclusive)

Overall

After a trend of giving us more than one attempt on Legendaries, we are back to the norm with just one this week and a heck of a choice to make. SR is the easiest to rule out. It doesn't currently have a hybrid, it's made of all huntable parts, and we have the opportunity to raid it once a week. Of the remaining 3, we like Rexy the best. As everyone is probably aware by now, this creature is crazy OP on its own and could some day receive her very own hybrid. It's really a toss up between the other two next, as both have hybrids you'll find on most arena teams. PLux is a global short range spawn, and we are limited to darting two per day. We also won't be seeing this one in the PThops pursuit according to the graphic outlining the weeks. However, we do get to raid PThops once a week, reducing the long term need for PLux DNA. Ankyl is tougher to create and build due to the Event Exclusive Bumpy required for it.

Featured Creatures: Rare

Monday - Tuesday: 24 attempts

  • Baryonyx Gen 2 (Local 2 Anytime) (Spinonyx>Erlikospyx, Thylaconyx)
  • Carnotaurus (Friday) (Purutaurus>Carnotarkus, Scorpius Rex Gen 2>Scorpius Rex Gen 3, Indotaurus)
  • Spinosaurus (Global Anytime) (Spinotahraptor>Spinotasuchus>Albertospinos, Spinoconstrictor)
  • Tyrannosaurus Rex Gen 2 (Global Day/Dawn/Dusk) (Indominus Rex Gen 2>Indoraptor Gen 2/Indotaurus, Tyrannolophosaur>Tenontorex)

Overall

Here we are back to just two days to get 24 attempts completed. We like Carno the best of these four choices, but all of them are quite useful. Bary2 is also a fine choice with its 2nd Legendary hybrid, Thylaconyx, being a top tier in its rarity. It's hard to ever suggest anything global over anything with any kind of limitations, but both Spino and TRex2 make some useful hybrids. With so many attempts over just two days, your ideal use of time might be to either dart whatever you stumble across or pick a couple to spread your attempts over.

Strike Events, Trials, Scents, Treasure Chase, and Hybrid Pursuit!

Strike Events & Trials

Strike Events & Trials will also be Camp Cretaceous themed and can reward the same Common, Rare, and Epic DNA found at event drops (very very rarely, you could get super lucky and be awarded Legendary).

We will have two flocktastic dinosaur specific strikes this week, a Compy2 strike on Thursday, and a Dodo strike on Friday. We've also got the Boost Strikes on Wednesday (Attack), Saturday (HP), and Monday (Speed) with a Badge strike Tuesday.

Scents

It seems they've done away with the generic scent strikes, as both this week will be Hadrosauridae scent (Thursday & Monday). This scent can draw the following when activated (one rare guaranteed on first pull):

  • Iguanadon (Common)
  • Parasaurolophus (Common)
  • Edmontosaurus (Rare)
  • Tenontosaurus (Rare)
  • Maiasaura (Epic)
  • Ouranosaurus (Epic)
  • Tsintaosaurus (Epic)

Treasure Chase

We have our standard treasure chase on Sunday. You can collect up to 25,000 coins through each period (Sunday will run 11am Eastern to 8pm Eastern, then it will reset until 11am Eastern Monday - this allows 2 total chances at the coins!

Hybrid Pursuit

This week conclude the Parasauthops pursuit with the Epic Acrocanthosaurus!

GamePress is excited to be able to provide weekly cash links worth $50 cash in game! The code can only be claimed once a week and you must click on it using the device you play JWA with. It will be active from Wednesday, 12pm Eastern - Tuesday, 12pm Eastern every week. This is a promotional code provided courtesy of Ludia, Inc and is exclusive to GamePress. We will post this link in an article we publish each week. We will post all articles on our Twitter so follow us at NewsJWA on Twitter so you don't miss out!

If you enjoy our content, please help let others know this is the source of the cash links people just post for the taking all over social media. The same goes for YouTuber Gaming Beaver. All links have a purpose behind them, and that is to promote some kind of media and drive traffic. Most people simply do not know there is actually a purpose behind these links, and we'd like to try to educate as many as we can. Take a moment to politely explain this in these posts. It isn't free money some random stranger on the internet whipped up. Every time these links are shared, it is taking opportunity away from an intended purpose. Please think about that or maybe find some time to visit Gaming Beaver, GamePress JWA, and the Ludia social medias.

*We can not control when Ludia officially deploys these links, but these are the times they are planned to be active.
