Power-up a Perfect Ursaring?

I caught a perfect lv 33 Ursaring a while back and I'm wondering if it'd be any fun to power it up and place it in gyms. Since it has Play Rough, it should catch most Machamps off-guard.
I'm missing a few candies but got almost 600,000 stardust, and don't plan to use any on the twins, maybe spend some more on my Perfect (non-shiny : () weather-boosted Lugia I caught recently.

I'm so sick of seeing the same pokemon in the gym day in and day out, I'm thrilled when I see other varieties of pokemon because then I can switch from my 50%-of-the-time-used Machamp.

If it would give you joy, do it! That's what a game should be all about at the end of the day. Not to mention that with Co/PR (or CC), you've got a solid backup counter for Houndoom and Tyranitar raids.

It wouldn't be a BAD Pokémon to power up, and the Play Rough is really fun to toss in Gyms. At the current time, I would recommend NOT powering it up, though - no Pokémon is worth powering up to be used as a gym defender. Not even a Blissey. That's just the way it is with the current Gym situation.

But dammit, I'm jealous - the last Perfect I got was a Poocheyna. I'd love to get a few more Perfects for Meta-relevant Pokémon (I've got 1 Machamp at Level 35 and a Machop at level 14, but beyond those, I don't have any other Meta-relevant Perfect Pokémon.)

I think you answered your own question, this game has been out for a while and I think players (at least i am) are finding little things to do to change things up/keep it fresh. You have the resources and the want to do so, so I say go for it. I personally like to have high level & high IV versions of sub-optimal mons like Ursaring just for collection purposes or to attack/throw into gyms for something different

Level 33 Ursaring is already a respectable 2484cp, so you can already place it in gyms as is. If having an intimidating CP is important for you, one power up to level 33.5 (7K stardust) would hit 2504cp, and taking it to level 36 (44K stardust) would hit 2602 CP. That is a lot of stardust though.

That Lugia sounds like a way better investment to me. Play Rough is cool on Ursaring because it counters its only real counter though.

Here are my thoughts though - there's not really a point to use fun mons in raids because it could cost you the capture, so if you want to use mons that aren't always seen, put 'em in gyms. And if you want to power up some non-optimal defenders, choose some that have good Defending moves (slow, strong moves). You might even get the added benefit of people not knowing how to counter the 'mon because they aren't seen often. Good examples include Claydol w/ Confusion or Armaldo with Struggle Bug.

I had a Level 7 perfect Ursaring for around a year before recently deciding it would be fun to push it all the way to Level 39. I did and haven't regretted it since. Mine is double fighting moves and it's fun to mix it in with a couple Machamps when doing raids or beating down Blissey/Chansey/Snorlax/Tyranitar in gyms. Not the most efficient thing, but I've got plenty of dust and I've enjoyed mixing things up. If that's similar to how you feel then you won't regret it.

I have a perfect Ursaring with PR too! He's a long term project. I power him up like once or twice a month. I want one powered up (to 30) Latios and then I may go back and power him up some more

No need to power it up, it loses motivation fast in a gym anyway. But stick it in gyms for sure, I have a similar perfect Usaring I place in gyms, had to use a TM to get Play Rough. But I have never powered him up (caught as a L35 Teddiursa).
