How do you guys feel about Ursaring as an attacker and defender? Counter/Play rough or C/Close combat seem to be front runners. He gets no stab however from any moves... I'm looking for something "fun" but still decent to add to my line up of army of Vaporeon's... I just wanna get some thoughts on some new gen2 poke worth adding to a line up.
Very solid Defender. The normal typing and solid HP are good, and having both high CP (to be able to slot into gyms freely) and Play Rough as a charge move are great. As an attacker, it's kind of just a worse, potion-heavy Machamp/Heracross. But it's got a slightly higher DPS than Donphan with the same sort of moveset.
That said, Hyper Beam does more DPS than Close Combat on attack, except against TTar.
Thanks for the input. Definitely agree, sadly don't have a lot of champs around for getting a good double fighting moveset one. I do have k/stone edge 2.4k champ. Dunno if that's worth keeping where is or keeping as my main champ.
Back to Ursa tho I forget he can get hyper beam... That +stab would be nice. Evo'd 5 teds atm and none with hyper beam tho.
Hyper beam is better for him on att, but he is a good alternative to machamp and heracross, maybe better against lax and blissey with ZH as quick move. He can also be a good prestigier generalist. On defense he is great, and is the same case as guys like muk and alakazam, very badass, maybe scary people enough to make them don't even try =).
All of these were caught in the wild or evolved with zero dust added.
The truth is he is a nice general Pokémon. Most folks have a specialized Pokémon that does what he does better any way you look at it in any matchup. It's nice to build up a crew of them but no certain moveset is really great in offense or defense if you have a well built pokedex. He is generallly pretty damn useful though especially compared with other gen 2 mons.
Also if you are looking for a gen 2 attacker that can ruin defenders then look no further than Scizor only if your gyms have Eggs of course.
