Apple Watch Functionality for Pokemon GO Discontinuing July 1st 2019

  • Adventure Sync and Apple Health integration unaffected
  • Changing because Adventure Sync availability makes it redundant

Niantic announced on May 31st, 2019, that Pokemon GO will be discontinuing support for the Apple Watch beginning July 1st.

Apple Watch integration, first made available in December 2016, allowed users to use the watch's step tracker to hatch eggs and gain Buddy candy. However, with the addition of Adventure Sync in 2018, the Apple Watch feature was made somewhat obsolete.

Players were also able to see their Egg hatching progress via the watch's screen.

This announcement includes an allusion to Niantic wanting to "focus on building Adventure Sync so that Trainers will no longer have to split their gameplay between 2 devices."

Pokemon GO+ functionality remains unaffected.
