Gym idea: Scaling CP for prestige

When you train a team gym, if your trainer level is lower than the defender's pokemon level, then it lowers the defender's level to be within range of your level.

What if you could also do that with your attackers? You choose a CP target and the game scales down the levels of your pokemon until their CP are equal to or less than that CP.

Players then only need to keep the best IVs and best CPs for pokemon that they have and can scale down to selectively make training as difficult as they want to get the full prestige value.

(Assume this change also includes some sort of limit on Bubblestrat. Can't place a defender under a certain level or CP and can't gain more prestige than the defender's CP are the leading suggestions I've seen.)

I don't think what you have described in your first paragraph is true... if the game does lower your team gym's defenders' CP, then how Do you get maximum prestige from attacking with mons half the CP?

This game wants you to continuously hunt and catch new mons. Not just catch 100%, perfect moveset and move on to the next mon. Allowing mons to scale level defeats the purpose of gotta catch them all!

It has been that way since the October update that allowed you to bring 6 pokemon for prestige. It is intended to allow lower level players to be able to still build prestige for team gyms with much higher level pokemon.

When training, if defending Pokemon's level is higher than the trainer, it'll be scaled down to match.

The only times I've noticed it has been when a really high level player places a maxed pokemon with a lower max CP. And yes it does screw up CP math when it goes 28xx Rhydon, 28xx Dragonite, 28xx Exeggutor scaled down to 25xx, 28xxDragonite.

I've seen this idea suggested before and I think it's good...This way, you don't have to keep 5 Tangelas at 600, 800, 1000, 1200, 1400 CP.

You just keep, say 2 at 1400 and the system can scale it so you always get 1000 prestige, etc...

The bad thing is it'll make gym spots even harder to get since everyone will know how to prestige now.

I sorta like how many people don't seem to know what to do so won't bother with spots 8/9/10. If everyone did, it'll be tougher to hold gyms.

Well, it would be optional--it shouldn't automatically scale down to half because Blissey--so those players would not know why they would want to do that and they could just ignore it.

I like it.

One of my least favorite aspects of the game is the anxiety of powering up a pokemon by mistake. I'd rather work toward powering up all my favorites regardless of whether I use them for attacking or prestige. I understand that strategy of what not to power up is interesting for many players (and heck it saves stardust) but it's not as fun IMO.

An example is let's say I have a 95% Dragonite I power up to Level 30 for battling. Then I get a 98% Dragonite. Now I regret powering up that first one - I would rather keep the worser one for prestige and the better one for attacking/defending gyms. Much regret.

Oh and there's nothing worse than selecting a prestige team. Having to scroll midway down a list of like 1,000 pokemon 6 times. I realize some people do naming strategies but I also hate that too.
