Latios and rare candies

Sorry about another "i got a 100%" post but im pretty new to the game and im curious if its worth sacrificing my rare candies and star dust to make my 100% IV Latios to lv30?
I have no dragonites (not even close) and even further away from salamence.
Hes a dragon/solar Latios atm but i dont mind spending some charged TMs if hes worth it.
Would love your input, from what i read hes pretty good but gamepress says "hard to justify spending Rare Candy on Latios" (

in short: No, not worth it

In long: I started recently too, but latios isnt going to be much use, even a good IV one as theres other dragon types that are more powerful like dragonite and salamence that are easier to get candies for, and rare candies should be saved up for rayquaza when it returns, or the gen 4 dragons, whichever's first, if you want a good dragon type

I would generally agree.

That being said I am constantly tempted to max out my perfects, some are useful (like Golem, Rhydon, and Blissey), others are less so (like Charizard and I also have two perfect Arcanines) and then some aren't at all useful but I can't stand not powering them up (I have a perfect Dusclops for example that I love to throw in gyms for no apparent reason.)

So if you're like me you probably will anyway. But you shouldn't.

I generally play in a way that maximize my profits so i will refrain from spending my rare candies but i might use my Latios candies on him atleast, depending if i can find another Latios thats dragon/dragon from get go.
I checked and i have 2 solid Dratinis but only 50ish candies so figured ill be ready for my Dragonite/whichever legendary we get for June instead.

Unless you've got zero need for a strong pkm, it's a no-brainer: power up to level 30! Especially since it will be awhile before you have other powerful pkm....
1) Latios is actually more powerful then Dragonite (base stats) *
2) DB/DC great for dodging and gym sweeping
3) 100% so not like you're going to find a better one
4) Rare candy will come, get some use out of what you've got now!

* Base stats: Attack/Def/Stam/MaxCP
Latios: 268 / 228 / 160 / 3644
D'nite: 263 / 201 / 182 / 3581

In short, very much worth it!

Imo, the only real hesitation is if you already have a Dragonite powered up that has legacy Dragon Claw. Outrage deals more damage and is better for raids, but Dragon Claw is faster and is better for clearing out low motivation gyms. But Dragon Claw is still really good in raids. Unless you have a full team of dragons with Outrage, it will still be a very good addition to your dragon lineup for raids.

If you don't have a great area for grinding Dratini candy (basically waterfront with lots of spawns), I'd recommend powering up. In most areas it's easier to accumulate rare candy than Dratini candy and you're not even close to Dragonite. The difference between 0 and 1 good dragon attackers is drastic, I remember the first time I got to fight gyms with a Dragonite as a generalist and it felt amazing. And Dragon is a top tier raid counter at the moment as well.

Ray is a much better target for RC, but you don't have one and it's unlikely to come back for at least half a year. In the meantime, your Latios will do a lot of heavy lifting, possibly even head your team against Palkia raids. We're talking only 66 rare candy minus whatever you currently have, so a relatively small investment for a great gain.

Feel free to power him up to lvl 30 or even 35. Im in similiar situation( only have one 91% Rayquaza powered to 35) and no Dragonites or Salamence. I still cant find good Latios, but i have hope to get until it will be away.

Big fan of Latios here.

I wasn't planning to power one up, because of all the naysayers, but I did well on catching them, plus the double candy event, and decided to power one up with just the Latios Candy I acquired to see how high it went.

They are wrong, he's amazing.

Here's the thing, having different Pokemon powered up is a huge benefit. You never know when that extra typing (in this case Psychic) could give him a leg up. What's more, that 3 bar charge move has a big use in Raids too. I've found that its best to put him 4th in large group raids and switch to him if the boss gets low on health before his turn comes up. One can get a lot of little DC in when a 2 bar or single bar charge move might not have enough time to power up.

I made a full team of 6 Dragons, powered up, for Latias and they worked well. But when Latias had Outrage, neither Rayquaza nor Ssalamence could quite cut it. They fainted at one Outrage, Not true of my boy Latios. He could tank an outrage and keep dealing out the Claws,

I actually have two powered up now. One at lvl 34 (96%) and another, that I caught on the very last day of Latios, powered up to lvl 30 (100%).

In your situation I definitely would power it up. Its basically on par with Dragonite and Salamence and you are having trouble getting those.

I've powered up a Latios to L30 and they are fun to attack with. Great at dodging.

I powered my Latios up to 30 and I love it! Besides,Dragon Breath / Dragon Claw are excellent for dodging. Neved had a Dragonite with that moveset so Latios contributes with some variety to my team. Go for it you won't regret it.

I'll power up my 96% latios if no better one. I have my special love on DB DC dragons. I got 2 such dragonites. Latios will join this group.

PS. Frankly speaking, I don't use DC dragon that much as there are hardly any low motivation gyms here. However, I still love this moveset.

Latios is a better place to spend dust than latias (even though LatiAs was my first perfect legendary). I started playing the game late so I don’t have a DB/DC Dragonite so it was worth it to powerup my latios. I use it for clearing gyms and mop up for LatiAs trios trying to eek out better times since outrage is so slow. It’s definitely fun to use.
