What is the best value walking buddy? (Side Note: Its not Dratini, Snorlax Mareep, or any other 5km buddies)

We all seem to walk a 5km busy out of necessity but what 3 and 1 km Pokémon are the best values? This award use to belong to Wigglytuff, but post event we have stashes of her. Is the best value buddy Geodude family? Or Rhyhorn? Heracross? Machop?

Why isn't the 5km Pokemon not the best value? Everything else is relatively common couldn't really see any reason to walk them.. and if you do you might have a nest pop up next migration lol.

And what return on your candy/dust investment do you plan on getting for this powered up Porygon?

We just had an event which had lots of porygon spawns.. but porygon is not really that useful unless you don't have enough to evolve it which I imagine most people do.. blissey candy or snorlax is much more useful for gyms and larvitar/ mareep for 2nd gen dex

That's hard to answer since it's so tied to personal biomes and hunting grounds. It's also hard to find great value since so many of the good 1 and 3 KM Pokes are in common or uncommon tiers of egg rarity. I would say Golem isn't a better choice than others you listed since he is a more common egg hatch than the others. Also Rhyhorn has a future evo and we really have no idea what that may cost. So that's not a bad one. The truth is there is no 3KM or 1KM mon I would trade candies for at rates equal to their walking distance ratios. I'm not sure others would either. That has a lot to do with their overall rarity outside of walking which makes their candies more scarce in general.

The truth is if you would not trade 30 Snorlax/Chansey/Larvitar/Dragonite candies for 50 Rhydon candies you shouldn't walk Rhydon either.

Id go for pokemon that you know dont pop up much or you dont hatch much of. Porygon, grimmer, koffing are good examples of 3km ones you should walk with or starters if they dont spawn much or at nests. Even though I live in southern california water pokemon are not common for me unless theres a nest or if I were to go to the beach which I dont go to.

The answer to your question depends entirely on what you value.

If you happen to value high-CP mons for gym placement, I made this chart a while ago to visualize dust and walking costs for the top 6 CP mons. Perhaps it might help you, too. (Level requirements above 30 were added last-minute to the middle of the dust chart.)

What?

Walk whatever the heck means something to you. It's not rocket science, it's simple supply and demand. Whatever you demand and don't have a supply of you can walk.

Spoiler Alter: For me it's been Snorlax or Dratini candy for the last 700+km. Everyting else I can either find in the wild, hatch as much as I need, or don't need at all.

It must be awesome to not feel the need to walk a Snorlax or a dratini.

Level 34. Never hatched a Snorlax. Haven't caught one worth powering up. Awesome indeed! ;)

(To be fair, I do walk a Dratini occasionally. First Dragonite should be here within a month. Before that, though, I have another fish that really wants to fly.)

lol best value to me is Blissey since she only costs 50 candies to evolve and well quite frankly movesets don't matter a ton w/ her. Snorlax is cool I guess? (Esp since you already know your moveset , but I wouldn't walk w/ a suboptimal moveset one to power up) But Tyranitar & Nite 625 km from start to finish w/ 2 great movesets each? Unless you're powering I'm one up lol I'll pass to walk to evolve one. That's 4 Rhydons and 5 Golems. Lol

Why walk Geodude or Rhyhorn when you can just catch them in the wild? It's best to walk for candy that you can't really get from any other source such as Mareep, Dratini, Lapras, Snolax etc.

I walk for whatever candy I need the most at the time that isn't normally available in the wild. Right now I have a 93% Lavitar I want to evolve so to get there faster I'm walking it.

Yeah but geodude are pretty rare where I live and rhyhorn are even less common

golem has 2916 max cp, which is the same as exeggcutor, so even with easy counters the distance/value for cp and gym placement is very high for gyms that don't need extremely high cp mons 3000+ and such

I can't justify anything other than a chancey/blissey. Blissey is just so much better of a defender...

The fact that you don't have a top tier defender will not be changed by getting (more of) something that isn't a blissey.

I agree with this as well...

Blissey is just SO much better than Snorlax as a defender and I see gyms with say 3 Blisseys on the bottom and no one wants to bother with their time and potions...

It is the best gym deterrent since you know they will have to revive/heal their non junk attackers to avoid timeout so with a lot near the bottom, that's a lot of potions/revives/time used.

I hope to hatch a few more since I have 2 maxed, but don't have enough candies to power up an army of them (and don't have another great candidate yet).

I'm walking Larvitar due to his CP, but will probably do more Chanseys after I have enough for 1 Larvitar maxed out more for diversification in case of meta changes and it's hard to maintain multiple high CP defenders....

The only pokemon I would walk for are either counters to pokemon that are relevant in your local gym meta (and don't spawn regulary in your area) (I walked with my Machamp when I got a good one) or a rare pokemon you need to evolve for your dex entry.

Now, personally I wouldn't walk to evolve since eventually you will hatch/catch enough to evolve them. So when you walk and then later find that pokemon in the wild, that encounter will be alot less exciting since you already have the dex entry.

I lately evolved a ES / SoB - Exeggutor. So i switched buddy and collected Exeggcute-candys. The same thing could happen, if either machamp or venussaur - who i am looking forward to evolve soon - get good movesets.

At the moment i am collect Tyrannitar candy, and i still have 800 km to go, unless i find / hatch something that shortens this range. This is a longterm project, and i don't mind putting it on break (see above)

Sidenote: what do you mean by "SB"? It could be Sludge Bomb or Seed Bomb, Solar Beam or Shadow Ball.
Yes i know, you answered to my posting, and i already mentioned Solar Beam. :-)

I don't like walking the 5km ones because I feel like the progress is so slow, I've been lucky to not have to walk too much for my snorlax because I got an egg on time to power it up,

I really don't find a lot of geodude and even less rhyhorn! These have a lot of value because of good max cp, my 2 golem are higher 2500 than my 2 rhydon, I finally got some rhyhorn eggs so I can try again for some better moves, as I got bad ones RS SE, RS Megahorn

Technically bellosom gets 1km per candy and oddish family 3km so that's triple value right there haha :p
