Scrafty PvP IV Deep-Dive

Submit Feedback or Error

Scrafty has seen stable play in Pokemon GO’s Great League and Ultra League for years now. Given that several events have featured it in the wild recently, we put together the Scrafty PvP IV Deep Dive to highlight exactly which IVs and stats you’ll want to look for. While low Atk/high stat product is the general rule of thumb, Scrafty defies expectations in both Leagues, gaining significant wins with Atk weights- some of which Trainers may feel are unorthodox.

This guide discusses the hidden true stats of Pokemon in Pokemon GO. In order to see these true stats you need to use an IV checking app (CalcyIV, Pokegenie) or an IV checking website (GOStadium, PvPIVs.com, or PvPoke itself). To make things simple, the guide also features PvP IV tables.

If you’re not familiar with PvP IVs, check out this PvP IVs Simplified video:

PvP IV Tables

The tables below feature the IV spreads that meet some of the more important stat checks highlighted in the article. It’s important to review their respective sections to make sure you’re getting what you want out of your Scrafty. For example, dropping your Def lower than recommended could open up a wider variety of Atk weights.

Great League High Bulk (155 Def, 118 HP)

  • 119 HP may be more consistent
  • You may be able to use lower Def/HP if you make up for it with more HP/Def, review the section in the guide for details

Great League High Atk (115.78 Atk, 148 Def, 111 HP)

  • Def can be lowered for more HP, but you shouldn’t lower HP for more Def
  • Lower Atk weights are also functional, review the section in the guide for details

Ultra League Slight Atk/Premium (145.7 Atk, 196 Def, 148 HP)

  • Def can be lowered for more IV options
  • 12/12/14 is likely the “best” due to the Talonflame matchup

Ultra League General Bulk (196 Def, 148 HP)

  • The Best Buddy options are filtered out as Scrafty is a poor choice for Best Buddy

Great League

Great League Scrafty has two distinct flavors: high bulk and high Atk. Overall, the high bulk Scrafty has more straightforward win conditions and should be favored by most players. That said, high Atk Scrafty has enough tech based wins that your opponents won’t expect that it shouldn’t be ignored. Building one of each is recommended, maybe even a third one to have a stat weight in-between.

In general, a bulk scrafty wants to overcome the following matchups, in loose order of most difficult to least to achieve. Links are provided to PvPoke.com so you can test your IVs against the matchups.

Given that these are bulk checks and not straightforward Def Breakpoints, you have to compare your own personal Scrafty IVs against the simulations. In general, 155 Def with 119 HP should be sufficient, but higher Def/HP weights could get away with lower HP/Def weights. Given that you may not have a Scrafty that can handle all the scenarios presented, it’s up to you to determine which Scrafty will be the most valuable for you. If you want a more reasonable benchmark to measure your bulk against, the Scrafty used by LurganRocket to take 1st place at the 2022 Liverpool Regional and reached 4th place in the 2022 World Championship with was the 5/13/14 (155 Def, 117 HP).

Atk Scrafty’s advantages are based on a combination of Atk Breakpoints and Charge Move Priority (CMP). The graphic below helps illustrate the Atk weights of common meta Pokemon Scrafty will likely be competing with. The blue cells represent likely Atk weights, the orange cells are ideal Atk weights highlighted in previous Deep Dives, the light gray cells are unlikely Atk weights, and the dark gray cells are very unlikely Atk weights. The first and last featured number is the species minimum and maximum Atk stats. All other numbers represent Breakpoints noted in previous Deep Dive content.

As the table shows, Scrafty has a large degree of CMP potential at higher Atk weights. Winning CMP won’t always win you the fight, but given that Scrafty is generally expected to have about 113 Atk or less, you could get shields and win conditions you wouldn’t otherwise have. For example, let’s say Shadow Nidoqueen knows they can throw 3 extra Poison Jabs before your Scrafty reaches Foul Play. If they plan to farm you to CMP, expecting to win CMP, you now have the opportunity to either get a shield from them or even win the game if they have none left.

Understandably, CMP plays are a bit inconsistent. Fortunately, these Atk weights are backed up by Atk Breakpoints:

  • 111.4, Drapion and Shadow Drapion
    • Flips depend on their moveset, baits, debuffs, but generally helps consistency
  •  114.24-115.58, Registeel 1-2
    • Range based on 190-192.3 Def
    • Rank 1 Raid Registeel Def requires 113 Atk, and max reasonable trade Def requires 116.36
  • 114.51, Lickitung, Diggersby 0-1, Galar Stunfisk 0-1
  • 115.78, Deoxys Defense Forme 2-1 and 2-2 potential
    • Also covers most Walrein and Shadow Walrein as a general Breakpoint
  • 116.28, Shadow Swampert 1-1 consistency, 2-2 domination

While Atk is the focus, maintaining roughly a 148-149.11 Def stat could be helpful for Walrein, Mandibuzz, and Skarmory. Roughly 111-112 HP stands out for general consistency. Dropping lower on Def for more HP may be alright, but dropping lower on HP for more Def may cause issues.

If you don’t have a  Scrafty that meets the high bulk or the high Atk recommendations in this guide, most Egg Hatch IV Scrafty should be fine. While Egg Hatch Scrafty may miss out on the high end bulk and CMP tech plays, in most matchups there won’t be much of a difference in performance.

Ultra League

Ultra League Scrafty is a bit more straightforward, as the level cap causes it to operate in a more narrow stat range. In general, any high stat product Scrafty appears to be roughly as good as any other, as long as they have roughly 196 Def and 148 HP. The Def is for the Walrein 0-1 and to help keep the HP weight consistent. The 148 HP is based on the 2-2 mirror matchup, along with the Galvantula 0-0 and the Poliwrath 1-0. These aren’t the most dire matchups for Scrafty in the Ultra League, but if you’re going to spend the XL Candy, you may as well try to have them.

There are also benefits to having a slight Atk weight on Scrafty. 145.73 Atk gets a Breakpoint on Gyarados (1-2, and 2-2 potential), Raid Registeel (0-0 and 1-2), and Charizard (2-1 and 2-2). 146.51 Atk can enable the Talonflame 2-2, and 147.37 can aid the Deoxys Defense Forme 0-0 and Escavalier 1-0 and 1-1 (although these species may have lower Def stats, enabling lower Atk weights to get these advantages). In general, grabbing a 145.73 Atk weight could be mindful. 146.51 could also be quite nice, but don’t overlook your bulk checks.

Closing

Overall, Scrafty is a pretty friendly Pokemon for trainers to build for both the Great League and the Ultra League in Pokemon GO. There are a few strict stat checks to get the most of its bulk or Atk stat, but the matchups don’t appear to be dire enough to warrant worrying about too much. If you happen to have a super high bulk or high Atk Scrafty, congratulations! If you don’t, whatever you already have built is just fine.
