Transfer Codes and Lost Accounts

So I've been going through Q&A for a few weeks now, and I've been seeing a lot of people talking about losing their accounts and failing transfer codes. I basically made an account on here just to ask about some of these incidents, since no one ever seems to elaborate about how they've lost access to the game.

The thing is, I've been playing since the Prisma event and have had some pretty decent luck on the gacha since then. Plenty of rate up servants have eluded me, but I've been fortunate enough to summon 9 SSR's and quite a few really good SR's. I haven't whaled for anything yet, but I have had to dolphin a bit to get to where I am now and the thought of being set back to square one kind of stresses me out. If I lost my account I would basically have to call it quits on FGO, and anything I invested into this game for saint quartz will have been a complete and total waste.

So basically, I'd like to hear some cautionary tales from the community about how to prevent this from happening. Feel free to go into as much detail as you think is necessary, and please let me know any advice that you think could would have helped you if you knew it beforehand. I also need to know if getting a transfer code now is a good move (i.e. if it will only let me have access to the current level/servants I have when I make the code). Thanks for listening, and I appreciate any advice you can give!

I can’t answer about losing an account. I can tell you that you should definitely get a transfer code if you haven’t already. It can be used at any time as long as you haven’t used it. The transfer code will always transfer your account at its most recent and will never transfer at an older point.

I just did so. Kind of crazy that I didn't have one yet, totally didn't know you could get a transfer code from the My Room menu. And thanks for the clarification

I lost access to my account when I was only starting due to not knowing how FGO's account system worked, but managed to recover it fairly soon thanks to my girlfriend being able to tell me my level, my support servants, their levels, her own id since she was on my friends list, etc., as well as providing info that only I could know (birthday, mana prisms, rare prisms, day I started playing, etc., etc.) when I contacted support almost immediately. My mistake? I didn't know Transfer Codes could be used ONLY once.
So as you should probably know, you should get a transfer code as soon as you make an account. If you already have it, keep it somewhere safe, somewhere you won't lose it. As soon as you use it (maybe you had to change phones, maybe the app resetted, who knows), get a new one immediately. The one you just used won't be of use anymore.

This is the main core of how fgo's accounts work. If, by any case, you find yourself that your transfer code isn't working (not sure how, but hypothetical cases can happen), check the next link for some important information you should always try to remember if you had to contact support to get a new transfer code and a password: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1FU8UkUfgw4rgXbhOomt4Vqgg4Mk1UnuZp8dQM9K1EdY/edit

It already says so in the file, but one extra tip: if you made in-game purchases, you'll have to provide proof.

I only had to contact support once due to my own ignorance, but having offered tons of information about my account helped them give me my account back in less than 5 days.

Nonetheless... tldr; the transfer code should always work. Get one in "My Room" if you haven't already, and keep it somewhere safe where only you can see it. If you use it, get a new one immediately, and so on.
Had I known that, I wouldn't have lost my account when I was just starting. But luckily I provided tons of information about my account, and I managed to contact someone nice enough from support who gave me my account back within just days.

With all that, you and your account should always be safe.

Damn, that's a lot of info I wouldn't have thought to record on my own. Hopefully I won't need to get to where I need to know my exact mana prisms and purchase history, but for now I've issued a transfer number and will start keeping a record of all my spirit origins/which servants I have grailed.

Thanks a lot for the spreadsheet too, definitely gonna keep that bookmarked in case the worst does end up happening!

I guess someone already giving a detail answer above, I haven't lose an account myself but I guess one thing I could add is, if you decide to take a screen shot of your transfer code, store the image somewhere else, in your PC, or cloud to store images, anywhere but within your phone. You might have lost your phone instead of technical issues.

Yeah I've fallen victim to that in the past, hence my concern for this account lol. Very sound advice, but I went ahead and wrote everything down by hand just to be super safe!

It's simple.

Create a transfer code as soon as you create your account.
It is a single use code. Once used successfully, it will not work again and you must create and preserve a new code.
If you use that code, create a new code as soon as you use it. The key is to ensure you have a transfer code ready to use at all times.
Configure your phone to store photos in the cloud. The easiest way is to install Google Photos on both platforms.
Configure Google Photos to automatically backup all photos and videos to the cloud. You will need to add the screenshots folder to list of folders to be backed up.
Take a screenshot. Apple iPhone will store it in iCloud and Google Android will store it in Google Photos, which can backup online.
Additionally store your screenshot elsewhere, like email it to yourself, post into a private album on Facebook etc.

If your photos are not backed up, they are at risk of being lost due to loss, theft, or sudden death of your devices.

Every so often, take a fresh screenshot.

I went ahead and created one a bit ago, it was so stupidly easy I can't believe I've played 5 months without one. Now I'll be a bit more confident that I can retain my account if I switch devices or if the one I have craps out. It just seemed like such a daunting and difficult thing to do judging from the sheer volume of masters I saw losing access to the game. Guess those can all be chalked up to lack of preparation, which thanks to this thread I think I'll be able to avoid.

The form for recovering accounts usually needs:

1. Receipts from in-game purchases.
2. Amount of SQ/Rare Prism/Unregistered Spirit Origin.
3. Name of SSRs/SRs you possess.

To name a few.

But ultimately, you just need to create a new transfer code once you've made a transfer and write it on a piece of paper/send it to your secondary e-mail or social media account (this is what I do) to keep your account safe in case of robbery or broken devices.
