Rabbit’s Reviews #347: Britomart (5* Lancer)

Later than usual on this review due to an unusually busy few weeks and a personal project eating all of my remaining time, but… well, this is not exactly an exciting or unique Servant anyway. Britomart is not great. She’s the third AoE Quick we’ve gotten since Summer, and she comes with a whole host of drawbacks and few benefits. She’s also more of an Assassin than a Lancer, which is odd considering we just got an AoE Quick Assassin. She’s about as generic as an AoE unit gets, and while she’s not terrible, there’s really no reason to pull for her.

Britomart has a fairly offense-leaning stat spread, which is good for a DPS. This is further compounded by Lancers’ innate 1.05x damage multiplier, putting Britomart in a good place offensively at base. Her star gen is solid, too, with good hit-counts, two quicks, and an AoE Quick NP. Her NP gain is pretty unremarkable, though, with very ordinary numbers for her deck. Britomart’s only passive is Magic Resistance, which is not a terrible passive to have but is unimpressive on its own. For appends, Mana Loading is the most important as always. Anti-Avenger damage is pretty niche, and the Extra attack buff, while decent on Britomart, doesn’t matter much in practice.

Britomart’s mat asks aren’t bad at all. All of what she needs she asks for in reasonable quantities, and the only post-part-1 mat she needs for her active skills is Scales from LB6. She’s pretty easy to max out, all-told.

Britomart’s skills are mostly fine—she hits a lot of the generically useful notes. Where Britomart falls short, though, is steroid value: she caps out at a meager 30% without niche. Recommended skill order is 3>1>2.

Britomart has a bit better loop specs than Sen no Rikyu and Huyan Zhuo, getting about 15% charge per enemy with two summer Skadis. This means an Oberon setup loops 3/2/x or 2/3/x nodes pretty easily, with just a little bit of overkill, and can loop 1/2/x or 2/1/x nodes with a 50% charge CE. Damage is something of an issue, but from a loop specs standpoint, Britomart is pretty easily within typical Quick ranges.

For CQs, triple-Skadi setups are generally going to be best, letting Britomart put out decently high damage over three turns, provided she’s swinging against a niche. She’s fairly consistent during this time frame as well, between her pierce invuln and her debuff immunity. Not much to say here; she loops and crits.

As is typical for Quick, Britomart mostly falls apart after her burst window, which means she’ll struggle in longer fights or in lower-end teams. She doesn’t have much team synergy either, which means she doesn’t bring much unique value to a Caster Skadi/Castoria shell, and she doesn’t play nice in semi-support-centric budget Quick teams. You can try to make these teams work with all the usual suspects, but honestly, if you have to go for a budget setup, there are better options. I wouldn’t bother with this one unless you have the tools to support her.

Assuming you’re not running an event CE, the Black Grail is your best damage option. Traces of Christmas, meanwhile, is a great 50% charge option, boosting Britomart’s Quick performance and NP gain. …Standard Quick loopers get standard CE recs.

Like Huyan, Britomart has decent crit access but very low crit buffs, so crit damage CCs are a natural pick. Alternatively, you could give her buff removal CCs to round out her utility and make her better for tricky CQs.

Lancers are good grail targets, and Britomart’s high base attack means she’ll stretch the bonus from grails a bit further. Britomart is not a particularly good Lancer and she’s an inconsistent Rider, so I’d recommend using the resources elsewhere unless you really love her.

It’s a little weird to get yet another conventional Quick looper, especially one that competes directly with the last one we got. As in the case of Huyan, there’s not really much reason to go for her if you have (or have the opportunity to save/pull for) Sen-no-Rikyu, who does mostly the same things but against all standard classes and most extra classes. And that’s to say nothing of superior Arts and Buster options.

She’s really a very boring unit, despite her cross-class shenanigans. Alas.
