Quick Survey for Those Holding 10+ Gyms
Which mons (and how many of each) do you currently have defending gyms? And if you're in 15+, why?
My current defenders are:
Rhydon (3)
Gyarados (2)
Vaporeon (10)
Exeggutor (2)
Golem (1)
Total = 18
I went over 15 recently in order to secure a few spots in gyms that I know to be stable, in case I didn't have another opportunity to get in them for months. I try to stay above 12, and it's hard to imagine that I'll ever bother to join more than 20.
Note: I know that my defending lineup is unexciting, mainly tier 2.5 - 3, and represents everything that is boring about the current system, but they've been very effective for me.

I take down about 3 gyms a day. Most are level 10. All are back down within at most 2 hours. Worse, since I'm the one taking them down I cannot place these best attackers of mine most of the time. I have to place something that can be prestiged.
That said I love destroying enemy gyms so I'm fine with it. I would rather have enemies to crush than a stagnant gym scene with nothing yo do but collect my $1 a day.
Been pretty steady over the last couple of weeks with the following 11:
Dragonite (2)
Gyarados (2)
Rhydon (3)
Espeon (1)
Exeggutor(1)
Vaporeon (1)
Snorlax(1)
I have a 2947 Blissey but she seems to attract people to take down whatever gym I put her in so she rarely stays in more than a day or 2 and I don't like to put her in a gym I think will be a keeper.
At this point I am on 11 gyms and I am not investing on more mon just because they are quite stable since a month ago and I am saving tons of dust for gym rework.
This are my defenders (or attackers placed on gyms just because of their cp, as almost everyone...)
3xDragonite
3xGyarados
1xSnorlax
1xBlissey
2xVaporeon
1xExeggutor
CP is king in my local area. 3k is a must.
I don't have a tyranitar yet, I finally do have the 125 candy but I don't want to pull the trigger until I can at least bring it up to lvl 30.
Dragonite (5)
Gyarados (6)
Snorlax (2)
Blissey (1)
Just finished my gym run, a few of these won't last through the night.
It's hard for me to get why do people use Pokemon that have a double weakness against some particular attack moves. It takes a split seconds for me to grind those down into a pile of flour. All the Pokemon on your list, excepting for a VPRN, are in fact, shitty defenders. I mean no offense. I have a two BLSS maxed out to 3141/3161, which I consider being more or less good def warriors. Besides that, I got another 7 CHNS hatched. Which means I just need to get somewhere 1867pcs.of candies in total, to get them lvl 39 to be eventually nice and sexy. When I multiply this number by 5 km, it comes out I have to drag my ass walking for another 9380 km. A piece of cake! Only like 2.5/3 years of everyday walking like a damn idiot, to get it in full. Here, where I start to cry.
This is my gift. My curse.©
There is also extensive analysis done in this site that those defenders (gyarados, dragonite, tyranitar, rhydon) are the best defenders in the game in terms of most time to defeat and other measures (aside from snorlax and blissey). Despite the double weaknesses, they are still among the best defenders. Vaporeon is also as good as they are at being hard to kill, but water gun is a pathetic defensive quick move.

Thanks for the replies!
For the first time I can participate in this survey (10 gyms!) after a good "workout" this morning:
Snorlax (4)
Shiny gyarados (2)
Dragonite
Blissey
Vaporeon
Typhlosion
7 of those gyms appear stable, the other 3 need reinforcements (my snorlaxes are the lone defenders).
P.S. I just noticed I was too late, but I'll leave my reply in case you want to update the totals.
