Please reassure that I haven't made a BIG mistake on Ttar..
I managed to evolve 3(100%,93% 15atk,66%shiny 14atk) during the event hours so all got SD.
Somehow I decided to TMed the 100% to bite!!! since I thought it would be more useful to have a monsterous dual dark type attacker to boost my crappy team when taking on a psychic or ghost type raid bosses/gym defenders. FYI I have been using a low IV Houndoom+2 Gengar SC/SB(all around21xx-22xxCP) and that's it! I had to fill up the rest with other strong but type irrelevant pokemons like groudon or dragonite.
On the other side I have 2 of each Golem/Machamp/Hariyama to take down the ice and then substitute the 4 fighters with Jolteons/Ampharos when taking on the birds..not even to mention that Raikou may be released soon as a breakthrough reward and I have been collecting rare candies for it.
So those were my thoughts but somehow I felt I shouldn't have done it...

Ok thanks. Yes I also thought that dark type is more useful at least for now when considering the game meta.
Plus when considering how Niantic is really unpredictable with movesets each time when they release new gen. So I don’t really want to plan ahead for gen IV, V, IV. Just like what they had done to Arcanine, Machamp or Lapras.
I would have kept one with the exclusive move, but really it isn't terrible.
I managed to evolve 7, and having 0 to start with, am planning to keep 3 with smack down - stone Edge, and 4 with bite - crunch. I have 3 high level golems with Rock throw - Rock blast / stone Edge, so three more Rock attackers fill that team. The other 4 creates a very solid foundation for a dark attacking team, on which I currently had no one except a single Shadow claw / Shadow ball gengar.
So I thought largely the same way, but having one with the exclusive move may have been worthwhile. What if they buff it someday? As you said, you never know what Niantic will do.
3 dual rock Ttar and 3 dual rock Golems were one of my initial plans but yes because of the unpredictability I sadly made a mistake and regret I should have stick with it.
So now I can only partially fix it with 4 rock golems and 2 rock Ttars. Time to find more TMs to change my other 2 golems to dual rock moves.
I would TM the 93IV to B instead if you r reali desperate of good dark attackers - since SD is legacy and you got 15 ATK on this Trex as well.
I m not sure how s the gym defender distribution at your side but psychic/ghost defender is not that prevalent in general unless you could frequently receive ex-raid for Mewtwo.
I dun have experience for using double rock Trex (I also raised this question for efficacy) but per Go press update it should surpass RT as better rock type quick move. Yea we never know how Niantic will adjust and whether SD will reappear afterwards- but as legacy moveset now, I still think it s worth retaining your perfect one.
How? bite is a fantastic move, and is the reason tyranitar is as good as it is, rock has almost no use in the current meta, and likely wont until at bear minimum gen IV (and that is really low balling it, it may not even be useful until deep into gen V) meanwhile bite is fantastic for alakazam, mewtwo, gengar, and will be (lets be honest here) the only viable option agaisnt Giratina
The reason you feel this is a mistake is that you can't undo it, unless they do another CD with Larvitar.
If you want a strong B/C Ttar, you don't need the CD. Just walk a Larvitar, and do some Ttar raids. Now, if you're in a rural area, or don't have any raid buddies, the last part is hard. Note that 2 trainers can now 2 man a Ttar raid, so you don't need a big raid group, just a friend with a strong account and 6 powerful Machamps, Hariyamas, and maybe the occasional Breloom or Blaziken to fill in.
I would have kept all the ones with SD as such, in fact, that's what I did with my account. I had 14 Larvitar candy before I started preparing for the event (had just finished leveling up 98% Ttar with B/SE, who may get TMd to B/C). I finished it with 4 evolved Ttars with SD (unfortunately none over 90%, I had poor luck with IVs,) and 308 candy, which I can use for powering up or evolving new Ttars. Caught 109 Larvitars, none got away, but one vanished as I clicked on it right at the end of CD, so I now have seen 122, caught 121 for Larvitar (yes, I had 12 before the CD. Larvitar is quite rare in my biome. Had never seen one until Adventure week last year.)
Anyway, if you are thinking of TMing a legacy move or an exclusive move, first ask yourself if you can get a different pokemon to get the same moveset as you're TMing to. If the answer is yes, do that instead.
Even for a case where the new move is strictly better, use caution. For example, Exeggutors with legacy Zen Headbutt can FTM to Extrasensory, which does 2 points more base damage per hit, same energy generation, same timing, etc. But in the future, if they buff Zen Headbutt, I'll be glad I kept a few. Sure, I TMd my strong ones to Extrasensory (and then Bullet Seed for double Grass), but I still have ZH on a few others, just in case.
Hoesntly, I think you didnt make much of a mistake, mostly as rock tyranitar has almost 0 use in the current meta while Dark tyranitar is the REASON is the king of the meta
Dark tyranitar will be an excellent pokemon, theres a dime a dozen other rock types and while they dont quite stack up to SD Tyranitar, NO other dark type can (and likely will EVER) hold a candle to Dark Tyranitar until *maybe* generation 6 and that is a huge maybe, Yveltal may be a better flying attacker than dark.
I think you didnt make a mistake,
Thanks a lot, this is exactly what I was thinking that lead me to TMed my 100%. I had no Ttar before and was so glad that I caught a perfect one during the event plus it comes with an exclusive move!! but wait...hang on... is it really going to help me with the gameplay?? Hmmm
My rock team was not the best but still usable and I have enough Geodude candies to evolve 2 more Golems when I find good IVs but my dark team was far from adequate. I am a casual player and I don’t actively going out to do raids but I do it for example when I’m out doing something and a raid just happen to start there. So then I wonder when I would ever obtain another Ttar again, my Larvitar candies were limited that I could evole and power up 3 of them and exactly like you said that Ttar is the best dark type by far and no other dark pokemon would ever come close until a loooong way to go, maybe in like 2 years time??
The reason why I regret it now is that knowing it is an exclusive move, Niantic probably won’t bring it back again on Ttar and because this one is the 100% IV I could never ever acquire it. If I did it on the 93% I guess I wouldn’t have been so doubtful.
I would have kept it as SD just because there is always a change you could get another 100% and make it SE but there is a zero percent chance you will ever get a perfect SD again, but it's still a very nice mon so you don't lose. I would max it out either way.
Mistake? Yeah, I would say so, but BIG mistake? No, not that big.
