PVE Offensive Moves Explanation

  • Snarl pairs well with Dark Pulse to fulfill a Dark-type attacker role.
  • Fire Fang pairs well with Fire Blast to fulfill a Fire-type attacker role.
  • Flame Charge has some consistency as a 3-bar move, but its DPS is poor.

PVE Defensive Moves Explanation

  • Fire Fang is generally preferred for defense due to Fighting-types being the most common attackers.
  • Snarl is largely unresisted otherwise.
  • Dark Pulse is generally recommended for defense thanks to its respectable speed and damage output.
  • Flame Charge can be used frequently as a 3-bar move, but is painfully slow and easy to dodge.
  • Fire Blast takes a long time to access, and Incineroar might faint by then.

PVE Overview

A fan favorite of Gen 7, Incineroar is an exciting addition to Pokemon Go among various players. Unfortunately at this time Incineroar doesn't have much purpose in the meta and trails behind existing powerhouses in terms of performance.

PvP Moveset Explanation

Snarl or Fire Fang + Dark Pulse and Flame Charge or Fire Blast

Snarl features fast energy generation and lets Incineroar access its Charge Moves sooner, but poor damage output. Fire Fang is the exact opposite, with a large emphasis on strong damage output at the cost of slower energy gains.

The former is required if Fire Blast is to be chosen due to the massive energy requirements to access, allowing for potential OHKO plays. The latter synergizes better with Flame Charge due to the ATK buff, though this isn't a particularly strong Charge Move for its energy cost. Regardless of which Fast Move is chosen, Dark Pulse is always recommended due to its lesser energy cost and respectable STAB Dark-type coverage.

PvP Rating Explanation

Great League: 2 / 5

Incineroar is almost identical to Houndoom, with the same Dark/Fire typing, offensively-orientated stats, and similar movesets. To be fair, Incineroar is at least somewhat bulkier and has access to some utility with Flame Charge. Unfortunately its performance against the meta isn't very spectacular.

Ultra League: 3 / 5

Incineroar can perform in both open and limited formats due to its favorable typing against Giratina and common Steel-types, among other Pokemon. However, it might not be as consistent as other meta picks.

Master League: 1.5 / 5

To avoid the much stronger legendary and mythical Pokemon, Incineroar would probably prefer to play in restricted formats like Premier Classic. Unfortunately the lack of Grass, Bug, Psychic, and Ghost Pokemon in this league does Incineroar no favors, and thus few reasonable wins can be expected aside from Ice and Steel opponents.
