Overview
Tapion is an interesting Card, built for DEF thanks to his Damage reduction Passive Skill. While Tapion’s ATK is not the worst, he only becomes a reliable Damage dealer after accommodating a frustrating HP restriction.
Tapion’s Link Skills are also a point of concern, and may not have the best synergy on some of his Teams. This Card is underrated and, while not a heavy hitter, Tapion is an amazing tank.
Strengths
Tapion leads the Giant Form category, which may not be the best category, but can prove to be useful in certain situations.
Tapion’s Passive Skill reduces all Damage received by 50%. When paired with a decent DEF stat and a Super ATK that lowers Enemy ATK by 20%, he has the potential to become quite the tank.
Tapion’s ATK stats are decent, but when HP drops below 51%, Tapion receives a significant ATK Buff of 150% and a 50% DEF Buff, making him even tankier. In addition to Buffs, Hirudegarn is released once when HP is below 51%, which can be clutch in some cases.
Weaknesses
While Tapion has incredible DEF options from the start of a battle, the same cannot be said for his ATK. Tapion does have the everso useful ATK Link “Fierce Battle”, but his other ATK Links “Experienced Fighters”, “Brainiacs”, and “Rival Duo” may not activate as easily, which is a little frustrating.
Moreover, Tapion’s 150% ATK Buff is great, but for players to intentionally lose half of their HP just to make Tapion a better Damage dealer is far more work than it is worth when other Cards have a lower barrier to entry in terms of building up ATK Buffs.
The biggest concern for Tapion in terms of his Link Skill are his Ki Links “Transform” and “Revival.” Outside of a Giant Form or Resurrected Warrior Team, Tapion is not going to synergize well in terms of Ki.
As mentioned above, Tapion’s ATK Links, except for “Fierce Battle”, are underwhelming, and the same can be said for his DEF Link “Hero.” While this Card is not terrible, Tapion’s Link Skills are an eyesore.
Synergy
Tapion is a surprisingly versatile Card in terms of his category because, thanks to Hirudegarn, Tapion qualifies as both a Movie Heroes and Movie Bosses Card. In terms of Ki Link synergy, Giant Form and Ressurecrted Warriors will be the best Teams for Tapion. However, players can easily bring along this Card to any category Team and it will tank a significant amount of Damage with ease.
What makes Tapion an awkward Card are his Link Skills, which are not all difficult to activate, but require specific setups that are more hassle than they are worth. Tapion’s best Linking partner is his TEQ Counterpart. Tapion is underrated when it comes to his tanking abilities, which is why players should definitely consider this Card for tougher fights.
Tapion is not the worst Damage dealer, but without proper support or his Passive Skill Buff, players may find Tapion more useful as a tank.
