PVE Offensive Moves Explanation

  • Hidden Power is better as long as the opponent will take Super Effective damage from its typing, or if you're lucky enough to get Grass typing (STAB).
  • Otherwise Zen Headbutt is better in neutral scenarios.
  • Grass Knot is the best Charge Move available.
  • Solar Beam is a major step down due to its inefficiency, but still deals a lot of damage.
  • Energy Ball is very slow and not recommended.
  • Seed Flare is unfortunately even worse.

PVE Overview

Shaymin is an adorable Pokemon introduced in Go Fest 2022. Unfortunately its stats and movesets aren't anything impressive given existing meta Pokemon, which can be a good thing since we can only obtain one Shaymin for now. If you were lucky to get Hidden Power with Grass typing, congratulations on your trophy! Hopefully Shaymin's Sky Form can get another Fast Move that doesn't depend on RNG to be good.

PvP Moveset Explanation

Hidden Power + Grass Knot

Shaymin was not blessed with a good moveset for PvP unfortunately. Hidden Power boasts greater stats in both damage output and energy gain compared to Zen Headbutt, in addition to having an initially unpredictable typing.

Grass Knot costs the least amount of energy among available Charge Move options, and is also quite efficient in terms of its Damage Per Energy (DPE). All of Shaymin's other Charge Moves are less efficient and share the same Grass typing, therefore they are not needed. Seed Flare is notable for its 40% chance to debuff the opponent, but this is a poor strategy when shields are available to the opponent due to its massive energy demands.

PvP Rating Explanation

Great League: 1 / 5

Shaymin's moveset is unfortunately very bad for PvP. With an inefficient moveset and lack of coverage options, it's best to admire Shaymin in your storage rather than actually bringing it out to fight.

You wouldn't bring a hedgehog to fight a dragon, would you?
