Overview

Genesect has it very rough as a raid boss. It sports a 2x weakness to Fire, which is a type that has a few very powerful Pokemon. All but one of its attacks are resisted by Fire Type alone, and its one counter-type is boosted in Clear weather, which is common in many areas. While not a complete push-over, these factors weigh very, very heavily against it.

Approach

Team composition

  • Fire Types are the only true counters

  • Heatran has DPS well above duo level with absurd TDO to back it up

  • Shadow Moltres, Shadow Entei, and Shadow Charizard are the DPS picks for this fight. Their damage potential is absolutely staggering.

  • Reshiram has the highest DPS of non-shadows.

  • Many Pokemon not on this list are viable, though these are the best choices in general with utility outside of this one raid

Battling strategy

  • For the Duo, focus on TDO-centric counters like Heatran and Reshiram with a few DPS options front-loaded.

  • Dodging Hyper Beam is definitely recommended

Note: "Good" movesets are not necessarily viable at the level indicated.

Best Raid Boss Counters

Counters Viable at Lv.25
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Pros:

  • Arguably the best counter in the duo. Duo-viable DPS even at Lv.20 and the highest average TDO of all counters. A full team of high-leveled Heatran can make this duo trivial
  • Resists Genesect's entire moveset. Double-resists Bug and Steel Type movesets
  • One of the few counters on this list that resists Hyper Beam

Cons:

  • DPS is still substantially lower than many other counters on this list
  • Legendary species, candy can be difficult to obtain
