If we go by the number of situations where each one would have been useful, I'm pretty sure escape route does better than desperation. And I think the difference is large enough that if we were asking instead "how many maps can only be cleared using one vs the other" I think escape route would still win.

Other opinions?

Thanks as always for your feedback brother. Makes me think, but you’re more of a galeforce expert than I am. I can see escape route for teams without cavalry + dancers, as they can cut into th backfield especially if I had a smiter for Ephraim.

Curious to hear what others think...

There are also some situations where lunge or pass are actually helpful for trying to trap a ranged unit against the edge of the map and some buildings. Like, if all the opponents are bunched up with no space, taking out an opponent that isn't on the very corner of the map requires him to be on a square that doesn't trap that unit on the corner. But if he lunges after taking out that opponent, then he might trap a unit on the corner if someone can cover the other square.

Ah! Genius. Very situational but I can see that working on occasion in a cluster. Would also require him to not have any surviving resistance damagers (dragons and mages) since his Res sucks

I'd say desperation, escape route would most likely deactivate his weapon and he already has 3 movement if you want to retreat.

That's not why we put escape route on a galeforcer lol

Yes, the retreat part, but when Reinhardt doesn't have an assist and he's right behind the frontliner (and there's a dancer), 3 movement might not be enough even if you dance him after he retreats and then run away some more. Doesn't happen on every map, but I'd say in general that I don't use escape route on at least 70% of the maps where I deploy him.
