I pulled my second Roy today, the first one is +atk/def, the second -atk/+def, the first is better but should I merge them to patch def bane?

His only inheritable skill is Bonus Doubler. This skill could be really really powerful on Legendary Marth. Do you have an L!Marth you would want to put that skill on? Otherwise merge.

A +1 merge is a pretty big upgrade now. It also puts L!Roy into the 170 BST bin.

His blessing effect already makes the game consider him as a 175 BST unit...

His weapon gives L!Marth a bonus to each of his stats, equal to the bonus already on them and that bonus doesn't count as a buff, which makes it possible to get a max of +12 to each single stat, regardless of season etc. .
Add the L!Roy A-Skill to that, and he can get +18 to all of his stats... let's just say, that this sounds quite disgusting to have to fight against... especially if you have a L!Azura, who can easily give him those +6 to all stats and grants him one bonus field for moving...
I say don't merge, because Roy's A-Skill is so insanely valuable, there are far too many units, who could benefit from it, even if it's just for infantry

Your "reply" has nothing to do with the comment above, you replied to OP himself... oh well.

While powerful, bonus doubler comes with a heavy opportunity cost - most characters would prefer DC or a breath skill for special acceleration... the characters that don't need it are armors who benefit from special acceleration on their B slot and have DC in their weapon. Bold fighter units still want a breath for EP - the only ones to meat all criteria are thus speedy armors who can switch to special fighter and have DC in their weapons... Which leaves us with L.Tiki and Zelgius. Hardin's 28 spd isn't enough imho.

Armors can't inherit this skill.

This skill is best used on units with DC on their weapon and good mixed bulk. So, either an infantry dragon or Fjorm (or Roy himself obviously)

PS: Hardin's speed would be enough. You can stack a LOT of stats with this skill + Kaden. A +10 Hardin with those would reach 50 speed. That's why Roy's speed is way, way overkill

True, forgot about that.
Still, I feel like most infantries would prefer to have more specials through a breath skill... or even block some with SS4.

Depends on what you're trying to do. A "super tank" is a viable strategy for AR offense for example. With enough stack stacking you can tank even the strongest units of a color that has advantage over you.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the infantry restriction.
Still, i feel like most of those would still prefer the special acceleration from a breath skill or special blocking from SS4

I accually prefer +def, at least when merged.

With his DC weapon, Roy is suited greatly for a defence role.
He can become insanely tanky when buff stacking.
