Unit Suggestion: Kjelle, the Fair Fighter
'Sup. I'm back again with another unit idea. This time I decided to try another non-Infantry, but instead of a flier I opted to try my favorite Knight.
Kjelle - Fair Fighter
[WEAPON]: Brave Lance
Might: 8. Spd-5. Attack twice when initiating combat.
Resolve combat as if foe suffered Def/Res-50%
[A] Natural Cover
If unit is on a defensive tile, grants DEF/RES+3 during combat.
[C] Dual Guard+
While supporting another unit, grant both units DEF/RES+2 during combat.
This one was a bit tricky, since Armored units have such high stats and I didn't want to make her too overly powerful. Though looking at her, I may have accidentally done so anyways. Because of this, I tried to make her weaker than Amelia, BST-wise, so she already fits within established confines of Armored units. Trying to stay true to lore, I made Kjelle more of an offensive tank in similar vein to Effie. Having a lot of strength, it only makes sense for Kjelle to have a high ATK power, and as a Knight she has high DEF as well. That made the problem balancing everything else.
Normally, I try to give a unit the weapon that they are wielding in their official artwork. However, Kjelle wields an Iron Lance. I had to improvise.
I tried to find a weapon that offset her already powerful ATK stat, bringing her up to a neutral 45 and allowing her to double on offense, she brings a similar offensive power to the table as Effie. I considered suggesting the Slaying Lance, but to keep her from being too powerful I would have had to lower her ATK, which would have undermined the role I planned Kjelle to fill.
Great Knights traditionally learn Luna. Initially, I considered giving her Pavise, but Kjelle needed something to offset the fact that aside from her weapon, every other ability I planned for her was defensive. Then again, with her natural physical power and high BST, maybe that wouldn't have been a bad idea.
A traditional ability for the Knight class lines, as far as I know, Natural Cover would normally provide a flat damage mitigation instead of a defensive boost; but for the sake of balancing I decided that a spur ability that would activate only while she stands on a defensive tile solidifies her position as a physical wall meant to hold the line.
Admittedly, my primary reason for choosing this was because I wanted to play around with the new support system. That said, I think the Dual abilities could actually bring some ideas to the table. In Awakening, Dual Guard+ increased the chances of a paired ally blocking an attack for the unit. Since a system like that does not exist in Heroes, I came up with something similar to the closest thing we have: the support system. Essentially, Dual Guard+ acts as a Drive ability that ONLY affects the unit that the user is in a support with, as well as the user itself, while within support range of each other, effectively doubling the effects of their support bonus when adjacent.
Thoughts? Comments? Concerns?
Kaze, the Easygoing Ninja
Aversa, the Dark One
Vaike, Zero to Hero
Inigo, the Flower Picker
Shinon, the Deadly Adept
Well you're in luck. :)
Awakening's Panne is the one I was planning to draft next, followed by Echoes' Tatiana. I may do Keaton later (and definitely Velouria, she's my canon wife in Conquest, though Elise is my canon overall), but I want to do Panne first. I probably won't do Kaden, though, since user "Amaterasu" already did. Theirs is pretty good as it is, and I did offer commentary on it. Still, with theirs, I don't feel a need to draft him.
