Thompson's Exoskeleton |
The increase to Damage and Crit Rate from her SPEQ does not mean you should attempt to use Thompson as a DPS unit.
It is also very expensive to upgrade for only +5 EVA.
Overview
Thompson is a 5★ Force Shield SMG with ridiculously high HP but also ridiculously low evasion. These factors make her a very specialized SMG rather than a generalist, and should be used only to fulfill certain niches rather than for daily use. While she is the best Force Shield SMG if you only look at pre-Mod, she pales in comparison with the other two because of their improvements.
Force Shields make you immune to almost all attacks for the duration of the skill, which gives it great potential. Very few dolls can achieve such easy immunity to deadly cut-in skill from bosses and surviving Golyats. The main downside being a low uptime and a long 8s ICD, it is very unlikely that you would be able to take full advantage of this skill outside of those very specific scenarios. It is clear that Thompson is a niche SMG and should only be raised for these specific situations alone.

Strengths
Force Shield Invincibility
The Force Shield Skill provides Thompson with invulnerability on a timer, which when combined with her high HP pool provides her with excellent survivability over longer battles.
Weaknesses
Low Base Evasion Among SMGs
Thompson has the second-lowest base Evasion among all SMGs. This weakness can be mitigated, though, by equipping Thompson with a high Evasion Exoskeleton to compensate.
Mod-less Force Shield SMG
Her competition in the Force Shielding niche (MP5 and G36c) both have mods that take different routes to overcoming the inherent weaknesses of Force Shielders.

Using the other Force Shielders with their Mods would be preferable if you need this niche.

History/Trivia
The Thompson is one of the most infamous weapons in history, widely recognized for its popularity in both the military and the mob in the early-mid 20th century. Created as the first step towards the vision of the “auto rifle” as held by General John T. Thompson, the Thompson SMG continues to be one of the most iconic weapons in movies and video games to date.
