Character Analysis
Merlin Prismriver (Second Eldest Memory Leaker) was released on July 7th on "Ultra Festival Prayer: Hype Hacker Harmonies." For more up-to-date analysis, be sure to visit the Official Discord Server.
The Prismriver Sisters are a trio of poltergeists most known for their beautiful music, with a violinist, trumpeter and keyboardist. However, in a realm dominated by the Capital, they all make use of electronics and modern technology in one way or another, including downloading files, hacking into the memories of others and finding new ways to express their musicality as a trio with perfect chemistry. In Merlin Prismriver’s case, she likes her electronic instruments as they bring the happiness needed to get through life, and also uses the wonderful world of her version of the internet to spread that joy even further. She even has those awesome cat headphones that some influencers like to wear online!
B5 Merlin Prismriver is a Speed-Class Friend who uses Metal and Water breaks, Burn and Paralyze anomaly utility to power herself up, and some team support via Agility, Accuracy and even Spirit Power.
As an Attacker / Supporter / Debuffer
- Increases her own Spirit Power by using Skill 3, and can do so for the team too, via Skill 2 and both Spell Card Post-ATKs
- Increases her own Yang ATK by using Skill 2 and Last Word.
- Debuffs Yang DEF of enemies via Skill 3 and bullet lines on Focus Shot, Spell Card 2 and Last Word.
- Slight CRIT ATK buff on Last Word Pre-ATK.
- Increases the team’s Accuracy by 2 means: Whenever she Boosts and via Skill 1. The latter also has a 2 turn cooldown rate, meaning it can always be stocked up.
- Lots of Agility buffs for herself and the team, with it being easy to max out via Skill 1’s cooldown rate being shorter than its duration. Also goes hand in hand with her Slice Scaling, increasing her damage.
- Killer range includes Human, Soul, Lunar Capital, Thunder, Musician and Engineer.
As a Utility
- Takes advantage of both Paralyze and Burn inflictions on herself via her Ability; the former increases Agility, Accuracy and Evasion while the latter increases her Spirit Power. Her kit is able to provide this for herself, mainly via Spell Cards.
- Can inflict and break Paralyze anomalies on enemies: Inflictions done via Skill 3 (2-3 layers on all enemies), Spell Card 1 (4 layers on an enemy) and Spell Card 2 (2 layers on all enemies). Breaks are achieved by Solo Focus Shot (1P), Solo Spell Card 1 (2P) and Last Word (3P).
- Takes 35% Less damage from Soul enemies via her Passive 1.
Story Card Recommendations
(Card recommendations last updated on July 06, 2023)
Spell Card
B5 Merlin’s main things to account for will be Spirit Power, Yang ATK and CRIT ATK. You could spread them across the team if you want depending on the card, but you could also consider Accuracy too, such as with Ability Cards? if for some reason the Agility buffs aren’t enough, although it would really be used for the extended Accuracy buffs. If you’re all set to go, you can also bring some Energy bullet boosting cards if you can use her Spell Cards for damage.
Spirit Power UP: The Witch of Scarlet Dreams, Our Dream, Dancer in the Puddle, Mountain of Faith, Youkai Mountain Anniversary, Taking a Breather in Spring, Post-Training Kinako Milk
Team Spirit Power UP: Myouren Temple Anniversary, Divine Spirit Tajikarao, Dancers Take the Stage, Utopia Tea Time
CRIT ATK UP: Worlds in Hand, Divine Spirit Tajikarao, New Year’s Shrine Visit VI, Miracle Mallet, Bloody Order, Ordinary Magician
Yang ATK UP: Ordinary Magician, Members of the Yakumo Family, How Irrational…, Kasen, Senkai, Nameless Adventurers, By The Underground Lake
Accuracy UP: Ability Cards?, Taking a Breather in Spring, Valued Tools of the Trade, The Lunar War, Poltergeist Sisters’ Concert, 8th Hakurei Shrine Fall Reitaisai, Shichi-Go-San School Visit?!, Secret Hobby
Energy Bullet Power UP: Worlds in Hand, Lunatic Red Eyes, Choose an Animal Spirit, NAЯAKA, Unknown Barrier Team, Mansion of Memories
Last Word
Like her older sister, B5 Merlin uses an Energy Last Word, and you know what that means: Choose an Animal Spirit, Lunatic Red Eyes, Unknown Barrier Team and NAЯAKA all with their 50% Energy boosting effects are the best cards for B5 Merlin. While this is a weaker option, it does get an honorable mention for its 50% Metal effect, being Disillusion, but ideally you’d be using the ones above.
Character Skill Level Up Recommendations
To start things off, let’s go with Acid Jazz. This Skill will benefit from more Spirit Power and Yang DEF DOWN on enemies. Next up will be High Energy, benefiting from a reduced cooldown (4 to 2 turns), thus making her ability to extend her Agility to the max even easier, while also further increasing her team’s Accuracy. Lastly will be Euphoric Trance, taking the cooldown from 6 to 4 turns and also increasing her own Yang ATK as well as the team’s Spirit Power slightly and more Agility.
Character Strengths
Eurobeat-esque Team Buffs
B5 Merlin is going so many miles an hour that it’s like she is listening to Eurobeat while providing all her Agility buffs! Skills 1 and 2 add 6 stages, Grazing takes it further and both Spell Card 2 and Last Word can help max it out! On top of that, Skill 2 has a 2 turn cooldown rate, which is less turns than its Agility buff duration. Aside from that though, Skills 2 and 3 last for 4 and 3 turns respectively, she can also do a solid job supporting with Accuracy, and there are even bits of Spirit Power buffs snuck in too.
High Voltage Streamer
To accompany her common Metal and Water breaks (the former being more common), B5 Merlin has some ways of breaking those barriers by both inflicting and breaking Paralyze anomalies. While her only way of breaking them on all allies is done via Last Word, her other methods can be good when focusing on a specific enemy, especially as her Spell Card 1 can inflict 4 layers of it, then break it after 2 boosts. Aside from just breaking, B5 Merlin also boosts her own Agility, Accuracy and Evasion when inflicted with Paralyze anomalies of her own. She can also increase her own Spirit Power via Burn anomalies too.
Character Weaknesses
Killer Range is a Little Lacking
While you may be able to find enemies susceptible to B5 Merlin’s Killers, such as Human, Soul, Machine, Musician, Thunder and more, these don’t cover a whole bunch of the cast sadly. If you want to capitalize on them though, try and see if your enemies are have any of the corresponding tags before bringing her for pure damage.
Needs Donations via Yang ATK and CRIT ATK
While her limited Yang ATK buffs are mitigated by the Yang DEF debuff she can bring to the table, it still might need more of it to thrive. CRIT ATK however, is something that B5 Merlin very much lacks in, aside from her Last Word of course.
