Hana-arashi (a Touhou LW original) refers to a strong wind blowing while cherry blossoms are in bloom as well as flower petals carried by strong winds. This is an apt temperament for Yuuka, a youkai who loves flowers. Yuuka is endowed with Wood Phase, which represents flowers, and Star Essence, which represents dreams and her uninhibited free spirit.

The strong and kind Wood Phase resists Water Phase, because water nourishes wood, but it is weak to Metal Phase, because metal carves wood.

The diverse and uncooperative Star Essence resists the cooperative and indecisive Moon Essence, but it is weak to the charming and arrogant Sun Essence.

Yuuka Kazami's Spell Card. She paints the landscape by causing a variety of flowers to bloom uncontrollably. Flowers, birds, the wind, and the moon are the things of natural beauty that are traditionally appreciated in Japan. ''Sing along with the wind and praise the moon'' is a saying in Japan about loving and enjoying the beauty of nature. But depending on how it is read, it can also be taken to mean, ''To feign ignorance to the wind and play with the moon,'' which is also kind of fitting for Yuuka.

This is Yuuka Kazami's ability to freely control any flower. The limits and conditions for this ability are a mystery, but it seems to be fairly versatile as she has been witnessed making flowers bloom at will and making withered flowers bloom again. This ability apparently has no direct use in battle. All of Yuuka's strength comes from her sheer physical prowess and immense youkai power... or so she claims. Practically all of the information regarding abilities has come from the user's own proclamations which has been recorded in the Gensokyo Chronicle compiled by the Child of Miare. Thus, the truth could have easily been overexaggerated or concealed, unbeknownst to anyone but Yuuka herself. In terms of physical strength or durability, flowers are incredibly frail. For starters, there are hardly any plants that continue to bloom for more than one season, and flowers that do bloom are destined to wilt shortly after. But perhaps that is why, irrespective of the time or place, flowers always have been and will forever be loved. So it is quite fitting that Yuuka uses flowers as bullets in Spell Card duels as these battles are fundamentally contests to determine who can make the most beautiful attacks. Flowers are undeniably beautiful, and so are Yuuka's form and ideology when battling against strong opponents with flowers that are meant to be so delicate. Also, it seems that the reason she adores flowers is related in some way or another to dreams. If the color of flowers is truly gathered from the soil... the color may have something to do with temperament or the fragments of the souls of the dead that have sunk deep below the earth. But there is no way to tell for sure.

Yuuka Kazami was released on December 10th, 2021 in Festival: Flower Master of Fantasy.

Yuuka Kazami, the Flower Master of the Four Seasons, is a strange youkai. She has perhaps one of the most varied interpretations in all of the series in fanworks - in some, she’s a cruel, sadistic being. In others, she’s calm and collected and cares only for flowers. In yet others still, she’s just extremely poor with people and has no social skills. Yet all the same, she is the Flower Master of the Four Seasons, the youkai of flowers, and so long as you don’t harm them she won’t harm you. Desecrate the flora, however, and Yuuka will show you why Marisa copied her signature Master Spark - and why she’s an A+ Tier Friend.

For farming purposes, Yuuka is at her strongest against one-enemy stages in spite of having an All targeting Last Word, Blooming Beauty - Master Spark, due to the single targeting nature of her skill but can still blast through most multi-enemy stages. She also comes with the added perk of two rather strong All targeting Spell Cards, which gives her a number of uses in other stages (such as letting you quickly blitz through event stages for those sweet, sweet Seal Crystals for one time clears).
Solo Stage Farms: 2-7-1, 3-3-3

For harder fights, Yuuka mostly serves as a selfish nuker. Whilst she has a small amount of utility in her skill Alkaloid inflicting 2 levels of Evasion DOWN (1T) and 2 layers of Poison (2T) to a single foe, she’s mostly just here to use her Last Word, Blooming Beauty - Master Spark, to inflict a ton of damage. In longer fights or in multi-wave content such as the Arena, she can also squeeze out extra damage between Flower Sign: Blossoming of Gensokyo granting her 3 levels Accuracy UP (2T), Fantasy: The Beauties of Nature granting her 1 Spirit Power UP upon use, and the extra Spirit Power UP from Capillary Action and Roses have Thorns.

Otherwise, her only utility is to be found in Breaks, which are overall lackluster. Whilst she has 0P Solo targeting Wood on a Basic Shot with Illusory Spring Flowers, it’s otherwise a dismal showing: Flower Sign: Blossoming of Gensokyo inflicts only 2 Wood and 1 Star All targeting Breaks for 3 Spirit Power total, and Fantasy: The Beauties of Nature inflicts 2 Star and 1 Wood All targeting Break for 3 Spirit Power total. Her Last Word, Blooming Beauty - Master Spark is somewhat better about this, being a total of 2 Star and 2 Wood All targeting Breaks for 2 Spirit Power, but that’s giving up a lot of damage.

Overall, Yuuka’s got essentially one job - hit hard. With just her Last Word in shorter fights, and with her Spell Cards in longer ones. So long as you don’t expect anything else, her tremendous damage output is always a boon. Just make sure not to hurt the flowers.

Whilst Fantasy: The Beauties of Nature provides some Spirit Power UP, Yuuka can still use more to keep blasting even harder, and thus Story Cards which provide it are a welcome boon. Yang ATK UP is also an option in situations where she needs extra damage from her Spell Cards, such as the Arena. Lastly, if you want her to hit even harder and she’s up against a Human, Fairy, or to a much lesser extent Youkai, look to CRIT ATK UP. For stat sticks, look to Yang ATK.

Last Word

Ordinary Magician

In Solo stages, or in harder content which will last for more than one turn, Ordinary Magician is Yuuka’s best option, due to the tremendous damage increase the Laser DMG UP and Yang ATK UP offer her. Otherwise, look to Accuracy UP for multi-target one-turn fights, and budget Yang ATK UP options for solo farming if you lack Ordinary Magician.

Character Skill Level Up Recommendations

Due to the relatively higher extra damage output provided by it, Alkaloid should be her first priority, Afterwards, Roses Have Thorns, then finally Capillary Action - all useful, that’s simply the order of usefulness. If you don't plan on using her to farm for some reason, then her priorities instead become Roses Have Thorns > Capillary Action > Alkaloid.
