New Go Fest 2020 Image May Reveal Upcoming Content

Article by Brian Tein

Things are ramping up for Go Fest 2020, and a new promotional image may have a few secrets hidden away in it!

While this newest news post is sparse in terms of outright information conveyed in writing, it's rich in terms of the inferred implications of Go Fest 2020. First on the list is a commercial produced to promote Go Fest 2020:

Honestly, the video doesn't have much useful information for us. The only bit worth mentioning is that Gible is shown multiple times, farther cementing the conclusion set by previous promotional material that the Land Shark Pokemon will be featured, giving many players access to a powerful fan-favorite pseudo-Legendary Pokemon that has been notoriously rare up to this point

GIble's final evolution, Garchomp, is notable not only because of its good general effectiveness, but also the fact that it has a Mega Evolution. This could be important for the future!

The Image

The big bit of news for this post comes in the form of a new promotional image, and the information that it conveys to us:

We have quite a bit to unpack here, so we're going to do our best to highlight the areas of interest on this image.

Mega Evolution

First on the list: this image prominently features several Mega Evolutions!

Mega Lucario

Mega Mewtwo Y

Mega Charizard X Balloon

We knew that Mega Evolutions were coming, but it looks like they may debut during Go Fest 2020!

The image depicts 2 mega evolutions in the form of Mega Lucario and Mega Mewtwo Y, and one Mega Charizard balloon. This is actually extremely exciting, as at least two of these Pokemon are projected to be absolutely outstanding in the Master League. Take a look at RyanSwag's article on the subject!

We also may have our first hint as to how the Mega Evolution mechanic may work in Pokemon Go:

Mega Ring

The male trainer in the image is shown interacting with what appears to be a Mega Ring, the item that holds a Key Stone in the main series. A Key Stone is supposed to resonate with a Pokemon's held Mega Stone to stimulate Mega Evolution, but the male trainer here appears to be slotting a stone into his mega ring. Could mega evolution be brought on by an expendable item? And if so, that's potentially good news for those of us who are hoping to Mega Evolve our existing Pokemon!

It's also worth noting that none of the Mega Evolved Pokemon in the image have a Best Buddies ribbon, as some players have speculated that being Best Buddies may be a prerequisite for Mega Evolution. This fact doesn't completely debunk that theory, but it's interesting to note.

While not shown in their Mega formes, it's worth noting that several other Pokemon in this image are capable of Mega Evolution: the Pokemon being used by the Team Rocket leaders!

New Pokemon

This image also has a number of new Pokemon hidden within!

Whimsicott

East/West Sea Shellos

VIctini

First up we have Whimscott. This Grass/Fairy Type Pokemon is a Generation 5 representative that we haven't seen yet, so it's likely going to show up for Go Fest!

While not "New" per-say, Shellos and its evolution, Gastrodon have two unique formes: West Sea and East Sea. These formes are normally regional, but both are shown in the same image here. We may see both formes available through Go Fest!

The main Mythical Pokemon of Generation 5, VIctini was already confirmed for Go Fest 2020, and we have more confirmation right here! We've already talked about Victini and its expected role in Pokemon Go, so be sure and give TForgery's article on the Victory Pokemon a read!

Generation 6/Kalos Pokemon

We have our first official hint to Generation 6/Kalos! While Mega Evolutions are intrinsically linked to this generation of the Main Series, we now have our first official Pokemon Go piece of media featuring Pokemon that originated in this generation!

Chespin

Fennekin

Froakie

Chespin, Fennekin, and Froakie are the first formes of the Kalos starters! We're not done with Generation 5/Unova yet, but we know that the next generation is already on the horizon!

Team GO Rocket

This image also prominently features Team Rocket.

The Rocket Boss; Giovanni and his Persian

Sierra and her Houndoom

Cliff and his Tyranitar

Arlo and his Scizor

The Team Rocket Balloon

All three of the leaders plus Giovanni are shown in the image, all strangely calm and apparently enjoying the festivities. This may simply be for the promotional material given the game's story, but it's nice to see enemies getting along in these trying times! As previously mentioned, all three of the leaders are using Pokemon that were initially very closely associated with them, and all three are capable of Mega Evolution. We may very well see a new Rocket rotation, and the leaders may become that much harder in the near future!

And, of course, the balloon makes yet another appearance. That thing may as well be the symbol of Go Fest 2020 thus far!

Reshiram and Zekrom

Reshiram and Zekrom

The Tao Trio are also featured on the image, despite the fact that both will be gone from raids by the time the event begins. This could just be a nod to the fact that they were just recently released, but a re-release for the event is also possible.

The Hidden Detail

Lastly, we have one final detail that Niantic subtly slipped in that most players probably missed.....

....this balloon is totally a Ditto. It's probably not important, but it's a cute little detail.

Closing

Like we said at the start: we had a lot to unpack here, and it's possible that we may have missed a few small details here and there. If you notice anything else about this image that we missed, please be sure to let us know!
