Profile

前萨卡兹佣兵头目,赫德雷。早期履历不详,曾作为护卫部队的一员参与了巴别塔的转移,在巴别塔解体后离开。此后曾以整合运动所属萨卡兹雇佣兵的身份与伊内丝、W一起出现在切尔诺伯格,并在切尔诺伯格事件后消失。再次出现时,赫德雷已在伦蒂尼姆的军事委员会中任职。在取得重要情报后,赫德雷离开军事委员会,同罗德岛重新取得联系。在与阿米娅沟通后,赫德雷再次和罗德岛签订了战略合作条款。

在罗德岛大部分年轻干员的印象中,“来自卡兹戴尔的萨卡兹”一般意味着,你最好绕着他们走,这无疑是拜某几位我们不是特别老实的干员所赐。在人们的口耳相传中,卡兹戴尔是一个塞满了W或者炎客那类人的地方,就连泥岩小姐,当穿着她那身厚实的盔甲出现的时候,也会散发出惊人的压迫感。
但赫德雷的到来部分改变了干员们的成见。当然,我并不是在说赫德雷不危险,看他在战场上的表现和他身上的肌肉块就能知道,赫德雷的危险程度一点都不逊于我上面提到的那几位,但他确实有一种不太一样的气质。穿梭于各个战场,以杀伐为生的雇佣兵们,通常表现得粗野或冷漠,乐于放纵与享受,这些把脑袋系在裤腰带上的人需要发泄的窗口。
但赫德雷,在他停留于舰上的时间里,每日都会在早上五点半准时出现在训练室,进行一个半小时的力量训练,之后赫德雷通常会选择一份清水煮羽兽肉作为早餐(有干员反映他甚至会拜托芙蓉为自己准备健康餐)。整个上午他一般用来阅读,在短暂的午休后,就是持续一整个下午的战斗训练,从不缺席。这无疑与他在外的雇佣兵生活大不相同,而赫德雷却出人意料地乐在其中。也许,相比朝不保夕的战场岁月,他享受的正是这种可被自己掌控的生活。

另一方面,赫德雷也拥有一种近似于学者的气质。但与我们所熟知的维多利亚或哥伦比亚式教授不同,赫德雷表示,他所有案头工作的目的并不是满足自己在学术上的什么好奇心与进取心。他经常光顾罗德岛的图书室,但寻求的却不仅仅是知识,更是方法。他所有的书写与记录只有一个目的:解除自己的痛苦与困惑。据悉,赫德雷现在正在撰写一本名为《萨卡兹战争史》的书籍,几名阅读过部分稿件的干员给出了相当高的评价,并表示它“并不是单纯的编年史,它承载了一种独特的,从微观出发的历史研究方式”。

一本内页已经泛黄的日记:
......我拿不出那笔钱。于是,我拉着板车,在城外找了块地方,索比埃告诉我人们都埋在那里。那里没有一块墓碑,但地面上长满了源石结晶,不是天灾留下的巨型晶簇,那里的结晶都又小又细密。妈妈不算高,但我没想到挖一个她能躺下的坑还是花了好几个小时。回去的时候天已经亮了。
下次我来的时候,这里可能也会长出一小朵源石结晶,希望我还能找得到位置。

我没想到那个人会挣扎。

那天,我正巧撞见赫德雷与一位巴别塔时期就在船上工作的老员工在酒吧聊天。之前W还找我说什么赫德雷疯了,每天只吃草之类的,我看他不是挺正常的吗?后来那位老员工来找我办手续,我们就顺便说起了他和赫德雷的那次聊天。——■■■

哦,那次啊。不瞒你说,前两天喝酒我才知道他叫赫德雷。怎么是我忘性大?他也不记得我名字了!唉,议长还在的时候,来来往往的人那么多,大多数也就是打过几次照面的交情,记不得名字也正常,何况萨卡兹雇佣兵们还老是喜欢换外号,谁一个个去记?
我们也没聊什么,谈了点以前的事情。我认识赫德雷他们这帮雇佣兵是93年,我记得很清楚,我儿子就是那年死的,就在他们来船上之前不久。那段时间巴别塔的处境很不容易,总是在转移,我们也损失了很多人——算了,不说这些了。我当时参与了对赫德雷那支小队的回收,没救回来几个人,我对他和伊内丝有印象主要是因为他们是和W那疯子一起来的,还有就是......他们最终离开了巴别塔。而且还没把W一起带走!
我愿意加入巴别塔,愿意和议长、凯尔希女士他们一起共事是因为这确实是我的理想,直到现在我都毫不怀疑议长的道路。但我也理解许多退出的人,毕竟,我们要迎战的不仅有特雷西斯,还有跟在特雷西斯身后的那些仇恨。但他们,赫德雷和伊内丝的离开与其他人并不一样,我看得出来,他们离开并不是因为害怕特雷西斯的武力、担忧留在卡兹戴尔的家人或者不看好战争的走向。要我说,他们走的时候......疲惫又悲哀。
那天我们喝酒的时候,赫德雷问我,我觉得哪个种族杀的萨卡兹最多。我猜了好几个他都说不对,最后他告诉我,杀死萨卡兹最多的种族,恐怕也是萨卡兹。是啊,维多利亚、莱塔尼亚,或者随便什么国家或者势力,要是想剿灭一批萨卡兹,最好最划算的办法未必是出动自己宝贵的军队,而很有可能是雇佣另一批萨卡兹来帮他们解决问题,反正死了就死了,还不用像自家士兵一样发粮饷和抚恤。赫德雷说,以前这样的日子他觉得理所应当,毕竟雇佣兵们的工作就是这个。但在那场发生于特蕾西娅与特雷西斯之间,关乎卡兹戴尔归属的内战里,他们还能只当一群开袋即食、价高者得的雇佣兵吗?
赫德雷和伊内丝不想给自己选择立场,他们想保持自由,但这样一场纷争中,谁能纤尘不染?唉,我也真是搞不懂赫德雷,他当年就想远离这一切,结果兜兜转转,五六年过去,我们却还是在这里遇上了。也许,有的事就是逃不过的,就像没有人能不吃不喝,逃开饥渴一样。
